It is one of the greatest films of Hollywood's golden era, a triple Oscar-winning classic with electrifyingly charismatic stars and a script bursting with memorable lines.
But now Madonna has stunned the movie industry with plans to remake Casablanca and this time set it in Iraq.
The singer, whose previous film career has been littered with critical and commercial turkeys, is also planning to take the lead role of Ilsa Lund, which originally made a star of Ingrid Bergman.

Of course it would never be made. After the fiasco that was Swept Away, Madonna will never get a serious movie offer anytime soon.

I will be banning boycotting this "remake," if made. - fixed it.

Sluts don’t make convincing movie heroins. She needs a more morally ambiguous role—like concubine of Jabba the Hut

I would offer, Rocky Roccoco:

Exactly. Rick is a self-serving type who is neutral and available to the highest bidder. But he becomes a patriot to the Allied cause by the film’s end. I guess the remake will feature America as the bad guys.
BTW, anyone who even suggests remaking Casablanca deserves our eternal scorn. You don’t remake a masterpiece.

Madonna couldn’t pull of a remake of “Monster From the Surf”.

The plot of Casablanca was probably a B. Casablanca is memorable because it assembled such a great cast. Bogart, Rains, Greenstreet, Bergman, Lorre, Wilson, and a few others.
This reminds me of the recent attempt to remake the Music Man, with Matthew Broderick as Harold Hill. It was almost physically painful to watch.
In both movie remakes, people far less talented than the original cast are attempting to remake the roles that made those performers legends.

When they get it right the first time it doesn’t need to be redone.

I think she could probably pull off the role of the prostitute that sat at the bar and drank heavily.

If it’s a remake she wants she might be better suited for “Earth Girls are Easy”.

She's perfect for any role that requires man hands. I generally ignore celebrities that are annoying, but she really gets on my nerves.

Sorry did not read the entire article but will the sympathy of the Nazi resistance be replaced by the sympathy Al-Qaeda insurgents?
Instead of ‘Play it again, Sam’ will it be ‘Blow it up again, Osama’? By looking at films dealing with Iraq lately I would not be surprised.

Wow. Madonna? You do realize that Pamela Anderson already tried this with her huge success “Barb Wire”, don’t you? I’ll expect for this to do just as well.

She ought to do a one-man production of Rocky Horror Show instead.
