I think my earliest has showed up at the end of April - most years May or even June. They like wooded areas and water so it helps if you have that nearby but I know someone who lives in a highrise near Philly and they fly up to her balcony.
On some forums people talk about a quart of sugar water being slurped up every day - I make two ounces at a time and end up throwing nearly all away. The flowers at least don’t have to be changed.
Got to remember, they eat insects and small spiders, the nectar is just a booster. They need insect protein to feed chicks. If your yard or neighborhood is too well groomed they might just stop for a drink and pass on through. I don’t have that problem here, LOL, this place is wild and buggy!
