Doves and geese mate for life unless the mate dies and then they mate again. If you are lucky you can kill the pair. If not, the remaining one gats a chance at veriety.

My father gave me my first rifle when I was six. A remington 22LR single shot bolt action. I was given several boxes of shells a week. I killed untold numbers of birds, chipmunks, groundhogs, snakes, turtles, etc. I went on to become the avid hunter for deer (both rifle and bow season) and small game. Then one day, like a lightening strike, they just all became too beautiful to shoot, and I gave it up. I still like and shoot guns, I just don't kill things with them anymore, unless I'm forced to do so. I'm a CCW carrier as well, and so is my wife.
Since then, and to this day, I try to make up for the senseless destruction I wrought in my youth, upon God's divinely engineered creatures. I now feed the wild birds, and the deer. I made multiple water sources for them. I adopt the stray dogs and cats that I'm able to care for. In short, I am putting up treasures in heaven, in the hope that before I die, I can mostly balance the scales.
All that shooting and killing seems so stupid and wrong now, but I just didn't see it at the time. To each his own, but this is me.

I also have some bad memories of shooting things in my childhood. Not quite sure if that is what made me lean towards vegetarianism (8 years no meat and no fish), but it sure made an impression.
People who have no compassion for animals have no place in my life.

A week or so later I asked God why this bugged me so much and his response was "You worship the creature more than the Creator which is blessed forever." Schizophrenia is not a joke get some help. You shot a deer and couldn't track it. It happens. Work on your tracking skills or give up hunting. It's clear from your post that you worshipped the creator which is blessed forever. You probably missed.

Are you a vegetarian? Are your wife and children? Humans can not live without protein. When you kill a soybean, you end life. It is wrong to kill senslessly. A man doesn't have to like it, but having someone else kill your meat is just denial. That plants aren't the same as a animals is just denial. We kill to live. Do it as painlessly as possible and thank the critter for the sacrifice. Nothing lives for ever and it is better to die for something than to live for nothing.

We had a game with pellet guns; “shoot the bee.” Find a bee’s nest and sit with pellet gun, range typically about 20-30 feet (we figured it was a good head start).
The idea was that as a bee hovered in flight for just that instant outside the entrance of the nest, pick ‘em off.
We got to be pretty good shots.

Schizophrenia? You really are a backsliding Baptist.
Its clear from my post I hit the deer and found it the next day. Its also clear that I cut its horns off.
I will take Gods correction any day. By the way, I would never thank an animal for his sacrifice to me of his life as you posted to someone else. How moronic. You might ask God if you worship the creature since you give it thanks.

As a kid I shot a bird with a pellet gun once then walked over to it and watched it convulse and flop around fo a long time.
It bothered me and the only thing i’ve killed since then are bugs....although if the neighbors dog does not shut the hell up soon there just might be a poison meatball comming his way.
Only kidding.....maybe not.

I think I’ll go buy my son a slingshot this weekend.
The birds don’t bother me, but the feral cats they attract are a real problem.

I saw Jeff Beck on a "Monsters of Rock" tour at the old Comiskey Park. He played before Aerosmith.
After sitting through Beck, Aerosmith was an embarrasment...

"Schizophrenia? You really are a backsliding Baptist."Next time God speaks to you, make a recording and share it. I will start going back to church. You felt guilty. You screwed up and you heard a voice in your head that told you it was okay. Go to webmd.com and look up schizophrenia,
