[history]
My beloved dog, Daisy, is critically ill. She has Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, a disorder that causes her body to attack and kill healthy red blood cells. Her blood levels are well below the normal/low range and her vet now has her in 'critical'. She will have surgery in the next 48 to remove a foreign object she ate- not sure its related to the IMHA at this point.
Sad update:
After a valiant fight against Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, Daisy succumbed to her illness this morning. While her mind and spirit were willing, her body could no longer fight. I was with her when she passed, and she passed very peacefully. She is now reunited with her feline buddy, Whammy, and is surely chasing squirrels in Heaven, as she waits for me at the Rainbow Bridge. She was the most incredible dog I've every owned. She was my best friend.
Thank you to all who have offered their kind words and prayers during this difficult few weeks.

Thank you, my friend!!! And yes, my vet is the best vet I've ever had. I can not rave enough about him and his staff. Such a HUGE difference from the previous vet I had- and left. I remember when I first took Daisy to see him three years ago. She has some sort of rash thingy on her nose. He wasn't sure what was causing it and said he'd investigate and call me. Well, I've heard those promises before so didn't expect much. Sure enough a few days later, he called, apologized for not calling sooner (explained he had some pet emergencies, etc.) but that he knew what was causing the rash. I knew at that point, I found a vet that truly cared about my dog and cats.
When he called me last night to discuss the surgery, etc., he said he would do what was necessary, including pushing other surgeries back. His exact words were, 'for Daisy and for you, I will do anything'.
I am blessed that me and my pets found him. He saved my favorite cat from dying two years ago. She has triad disease. He was also there when I lost my two other cats last summer, one to lung cancer, and one to grief over losing his buddy. When my remaining cat had an attack of triad this past fall, he and his staff did everything to make sure her episode was nipped in the bud. They did not want to see my lose my last cat.
And I think that's why they've been so good with Daisy. They know how I love my pets and would do anything for them. They're doing the same thing for them, and for me.
His name is Dr. Fred Heidema. And he is fantastic.

I think I’ve heard Tina Turner do that chant before. :)

Dearest Daisy...you have all our prayers. I'm sitting here with all four surrounding me.
rintense, I teared up the moment I saw this thread. Our furry children are soooo special.
I'm taking James to the doctor tomorrow, and was thinking earlier tonight about how much I love him. It breaks your heart when they hurt and you can't take their pain away with your love.
Mega prayers dear FRiend and dear Daisy.

Give your four a big hug for me. And good luck at the vet tomorrow. Its amazing how strange my house is without her here tonight. My cat is keeping me company, but even she’s a little weirded out.

Thanks, rintense...James appreciates that. He's had a few teeth removed, and consequently...misses and chews his cheek skin...that's MY diagnosis. Anyway...he continues to miss and ends up with a bit of infection. So the doctor gave him some antibiotics and that cleared it up well, last time. I think we have another bout of the same. When we take him back to have his dental and nail cutting, in a month or so, while he's in a "slumber" state...we'll have them see what they can do about permanently trying to fix this.
I'll bet your cat's worried. Pets are very sensitive to things being different in the house, too. They surely feel the void--AND feed off your emotions.
Here's to Daisy coming home all healty REAL quick!!!

Dear rintense, Your Daisy is an extremely wonderful looking dog. One of the finest I have ever seen. There is something very special about her, no doubt about it. May The LORD bless her and keep her. You sure can see the awesome, loving creativity of our God when you look upon a beloved pet such as she. I have heard that the original name for dog in ancient Hebrew meant close to the heart. She is in my prayers for healing and you are in my prayers for comfort and peace. May The LORD Jesus Christ surround you with His loving presence and let you know that He is near and loves you. God bless you.

Possibly she swallowed one or more pennies as well, and they poisoned her before passing through her system and out. Since they’re smaller than either quarters or nickels, it’s quite possible that she ate a well-rounded menu of coins and only the larger ones got stuck inside her.
To: GovernmentShrinker; All
That is my line of thinking as well. She used it ear pennies a lot as a puppy. Considering the color of the coins that were removed, I've got to believe they were in there long enough to start some toxic poisoning.
Got an update from the vet this morning: Daisy had a good night. She had a BM too, which is a great sign considering she had stomach surgery. She also ate all her food- with gusto! The vet will let me know this afternoon whether I can take her home today or if she'll need to stay one more night.

Daisy is HOME!!!! She was so excited to see me, and me her! She's upbeat with tail a-waggin! She's on a few more pills post surgery and goes in for another epigen shot and blood work on Saturday. Everyone please pray her numbers are continuing to climb! I'll scan in the coins tomorrow and post the pic so everyone can see just how corroded the coins became.
Thank you, everyone, who offered your prayers and support!

Wooo! hoooo!
All the Dogs here say, Yay for Daisy!
Hope she continues her recovery uneventfully and steadily.
I bet the pennies corroded completely away or passed when they got smaller. There's not much TO the new pennies, very lightweight metal. And the fact that no dimes were represented either . . . the pennies and the dimes may have been small enough to go on through.

Good news bump! Glad to hear Daisey's back home. Bridget had lots of pain last night and kept us both up till 4am, however, she saw the Vet for recheck and said she's doing better than expected for such an elderly dog. Here she is finally resting and loaded up on Tramadol a short time ago..
