PALMDALE - Three groups made their airplane-cleaning debuts as part of the city's Adopt-a-Plane program March 8 at the Joe Davies Heritage Airpark at Air Force Plant 42. The Antelope Valley chapter of the Air Force Association adopted the F-100, the Northrop Grumman Recreation Club of the Antelope Valley adopted the B-2 Spirit model and the AV Touring Society Motorcycle Club adopted the A-7 Corsair.

Other groups in attendance that already had adopted planes included the Friends of DCMA Palmdale, the Major McManus Boys Club, the Rosamond High School Air Force Junior ROTC, the Civil Air Patrol Squadron 84, the Highland High School Law & Government Academy and the Highland High School Air Force Junior ROTC.

"It was another great turnout from our Adopt-a-Plane groups," said Tim Hughes, the city's deputy director of Public Works.

"As of now, almost every aircraft has been adopted," he said.

Adoption of an aircraft means that a group can commit to cleaning the aircraft display on a regular basis.

The cleaning consists of picking up trash and debris, pulling weeds and keeping the dirt and dust off the aircraft.

As part of the program, each group will have a sign displayed next to its adopted aircraft, and the groups will be honored at a volunteer recognition ceremony.

Very nice. Anyone who visits the airpark may find themselves amazed at how large some of these single seaters are.
