As long as we are looking at this, it might be noted that mathematics is part of the universe since it comes from our activities and we are part of the universe. There is no particular reason why math must describe anything else in the universe any more than a screwdriver must describe an adjustable wrench even though they are both in the toolbox. While mathematics may not be analogous to the Universe, the math can be changed to account for observations that differ from the original math. It just means that our mathematical description of the event is missing some element... or that we are wrong completely assuming that math can always describe the event.

The fudge factor is always available and infintely adjustable. If necessary we can add a prybar and go medieval on it like spacewalking astronauts.
