Father-in-law was a Marine Corsair fighter pilot at Peliliu and all he ever told me was how nuts that battle was. Said the Seabees did an amazing job of keeping the runway open despite the constant shelling from a Japanese gun mounted into a cave beyond the end of the runway.

God how I love the Marines and stories like this. Speaking of God, does anyone doubt that He had something to do with three fellow Marines coming to the aid of an old Marine?
