FCP doesn’t run on Windows - and there’s no equivalent software package until you get into serious multiples of the price.
And then the non-FCP software is notoriously difficult to use (AVID, I’m looking at you.)
My two cents. I have done some interesting projects using pre-iLife08 versions of iMovie. I have not stepped up to FC Pro or FCE, yet. However I saw iMovie 8 recently at an Apple store. I now realize iMovie-pre 08 is a ‘tweener.
For pure consumers iMovie 8 is much easier. For people that worked in film it falls short.
So if you think iMovie8 is not granular enough, try to find an older version. FCE is a definite step up.
