What would be probable cause? (vanity)
DeLaine

Son got his first ticket. Policeman said he didn't stop at a stop sign. It was dark, not even street lights in this area, but he saw this difficult-to-tell action in the dark, when Nathan says he had come to a stop. He didn't argue though.

But then he wanted to search the car. We've always told son not to agree to that, there is no reason. (actually, his former-cop dad told him don't agree to it) Dad is not in the picture, so I have to ask you all.

This was his first traffic stop and he was nervous. I was out of town, he'd never been pulled over before. He is 17. A conservative homeschooler. (now the LEO didn't know that, I understand that) But is mere nervousness of a 17 yo young man really probable cause? It wasn't late at night, it was after dinner, about 8:30 pm. A friend's mom had cooked him dinner and he was heading home. Son said there was 4 or 5 police cars, and a dog. That's the entire police force of this town, I think! I understand nervousness with other indicators, but what about only nervousness?? thanks

We've got a dirty police department in Cookeville, TN. A man had filed a civil rights lawsuit against the police for siccing a dog on him as he stood with his hands raised, submitting to arrest. Among the charges he received were possession of marijuana. The police turned over the dashboard video, which showed an officer reaching into his pocket, pull something out and then put his hand in the arrestee's pocket. He then reaches in the pocket a second time, pulls out a baggie and says "well, lookee here! now you got another freakin charge!!!.

The husband of a lady my wife works with is a police officer. They moved here from FL. He went to work in Cookeville, and was ostracized since he was a "clean" cop and wouldnt go along with the goings-on.

Talk to an actual lawyer. Don’t take legal advice from internet drama queens.

Petronski is right about talking to an actual lawyer. As for the "drama queen" comment, I am one "drama queen" who, while under the influence of being young, stupid, and somewhat drunk, had a cop tear his own uniform and lie in his police report saying that I tore it. The cop must have pulled such crap before because the judge believed me, not the cop. As it happens, I was telling the truth; the cop was the liar.

I don't know about Petronski and Joan, but I live in the real world where I have seen good cops save lives, help troubled misguided youths, and build respect. Bad cops destroy lives, betray trust, turn troubled kids into BAD kids, and hurt ALL policemen. In their way, crooked cops are as bad as priests who molest kids because their abuse of authority has negative repurcussions that can last for generations. Good cops are heroes who help troubled kids find RIGHT paths. Bad cops should be punished TO THE MAX and deniers/apologists like Petronski and Joan are naive and destructive.

I'm shocked at the number of cop haters we have here.

I hate bad cops, you're right about that. I LOVE good cops because I have seen them play major roles in helping to guide troubled kids into straight lives. One good cop is worth a hundred good clergymen; one bad cop is as destructive as a hundred vandals. You are very limited in your view of the world and if you are in law enforcement, you are the problem, not the solution; if you are in law enforcement, I really hope, for your own community, that you find a different career.

That's really very unfair.

You're insinuating that I don't believe bad cops should be punished TO THE MAX, and you're stating outright that I'm denying or apologizing for . . . for what? You don't say. I'd like to see you point it out because it would be fun to watch you spin my words into what you've claimed here.

Insinuating cops should be expected to do you wrong, as some have done here, is just as bad as claiming they're all good, which I did not do.

You are, of course, free to read into my words whatever you want. However, when you do that publicly, in a post, expect to see it corrected.

I thought that they look to see that your head/neck bobs when you come to a full stop.

If they're looking for head/neck bobs, they'll have to look at my passenger.

She's so pretty.
