"Witless Protection" Plots A Wise Course
Los Angeles Times ^ | February 22, 2008 | Josh Friedman

Larry the Cable Guy's "Witless Protection" is coming out on Academy Awards weekend, but producer J.P. Williams knows the silly crime comedy is a far better bet next year to snag a Golden Raspberry award for dubious achievement than Oscar gold.

"We shoot for the Razzies," said Williams, who has built a lucrative empire around Larry, the country fried alter ego of Dan Whitney, and his feller "blue-collar" comedians.

"Certain studios are in it for statues, but I'm in it to make money because it's my money on the line," Williams said.

OK, fellow Freepers! "Witless Protection" was written and directed by yours truly. It's a goofy comedy starring Larry the Cable Guy. I managed to cram quite a bit of politically-incorrect humor and pro-America sentiment along with the expected lowbrow jokes. The plot is inspired by "Midnight Run" and "It Happened One Night," but secretly (one must be careful amongst the leftists out here) I think it could be subtitled "The Education of the Liberal."

Larry thinks he is rescuing a damsel in distress - she turns out to be a witness being protected by the FBI. They wind up on the run. She's a rich liberal with all the preconceived assumptions about Larry. But as the story unwinds, she comes to appreciate and accept him. Heh heh heh.

Watch for the "Welcome Home, Heroes" military parade - yeah, the one that certain Hollywood commies tried to get me to cut out of the movie.

Enjoy!

He’s kinda crude, and the humor is stereotypical, but Larry makes me laugh so hard I worry about wet pants!
That’s some funny stuff right there! Hope the movie is as funny as it sounds.

Wow, good job! Hope your movie does well! Ads look pretty good, I’m sure my family will be an easy sell to go see this one as we thoroughly enjoyed “Health Inspector”...

I heard “Larry the Cable Guy” on the Bob and Tom Morning Show this morning, and he mentioned that the original working title of the movie was “Midnight Run II.”

I’ll laugh, I’ll cry, and I’ll kiss my 12 bucks goodbye on this one!

Larry the Cable Guy is perfect for folks who like Dane Cook -- fans of comedians who aren't funny.

And as a Southerner, I wish Larry and Jeff Foxworthy would kill themselves. I'm sure the movie will be a hit with morons w/room temperature IQs.

Hey, if no BS, then well done.

It looks like a decent-enough slob comedy . . . maybe a grass-up view on cable when it comes out.

Congratulations, friend.

Spoken like someone who is very angry that he doesn’t understand the humor.

And on top of that problem, you post here to invite pity? Well, you’ve got it!

If I didn’t understand Larry the Cable Guy’s humor, I would be a candidate for sterilization. It’s just not funny. And as I said, I don’t like Southerners who perpetuate lame stereotypes, any more than a black guy would be a fan of Uncle Remus.

And I am sure that we southerners who can actually laugh at ourselves and at these guys, will just be morons while those of liberal think like you seize up in horror. I guess Larry and Jeff don't have enough F bombs to satisfy you.

Larry thinks this is his funniest movie by a long stretch. So do I, but hey: I’m biased!

Will theaters showing your film offer a discount for uptight whiners, or will Gurn have to pay full price?

“Health Inspector” had its share of laughs, but we think “Witless” is quite a bit better! Hope you agree!
