6x Blu-ray drives on the horizon

Tokyo (Japan) – Sharp has developed new 250 mW blue-violet laser diodes which promise to bring a substantial speed boost to Blu-ray writers – up from 72 Mb/s today to a maximum of 216 Mb/s.

Well, I dunno....perhaps LG is using a different supplier’s diode?

At any rate, it appears that the ‘horizon’ is considerably closer than what the article’s author would have readers believe :-)

I think Fry's had a Bluray for 199....which I think is a price drop which would indicate something new is on the way.
