Try this, ... Shadows
A shadow
has two parts, you know.
The one above, the one below.
Within the shadow of a tree,
Toward the light here’s what you’ll see.
A shaded part of tree is found, To join the part that’s on the ground.
The joining of the two may be, Inseparable, like ground and tree.
But as the world
turns through the day,
The shadow starts
upon its way. To join
its cousins in the night,
And leave the clinging one in fright.
The world has turned its face away,
From that bright light
that we call day.
The darkness that
befalls thereon.
Will stay until the break
of dawn. The night is shadow’s
fearful half, The other part leaps with a laugh,
Out where it dwindles to a dot, Evaporating on the spot,
Unless the moon has ventured in, As round the Earth it does its spin.
The shadow is a twin at birth, Even when its mother’s Earth.
With one that clings close to its mother, And one that flies away from brother.
Its journey’s length always depends,
On what befalls before it ends.

This is just fabulous! Wonderful poem, and the trick with the light text for the daylight verse, then the black text for night, just so fine.

This poem is especially delightful to me. It is a fine piece of work. Clever, inventive, playful, serious, deep and lite all in one.

You should enter this in a competition, really you should.

BOB, may I enter this in The Lair Anthology?
