I’m pretty much that way with the meats I eat, preferring to avoid thinking too much about the process.

Does this mean your mother had a cow AND an axe?

Yes, she had the necessary tools to finish off a chicken, and a milk pail and stool for the milking.

We had barn cats, too. She would feed them fresh milk.

Lol! The farmer taught us how to milk and later, using cats and kitten as willing volunteers, taught us how to aim. We drank raw milk for years.

Yup aimed the stream of milk to the cat’s mouth and they would lap it down. People drinking raw milk was common, even in the sixties our kids drank raw milk from the dairy farm, we could get a gallon for .50 cents, have your own container.

The maternal switcheroo: A zookeeper hand-feeds a Humboldt penguin chick whose parents weren't providing enough sustenance for the hatchling at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo. A penguin plushy serves as a surrogate mom.

Our town had a co-op and Farmer had some of those quart-sized glass bottles. I don’t remember the cost.

I read somewhere that people want to buy raw milk again. I don’t know, don’t think it will happen.

People want to buy raw milk again? I haven’t heard that in decades. What’s the reason this time?

Well I would guess people think it is more pure. Really can't say for sure as I skimmed over the article.

I hope the baby thrives. They aren't at all like the penguin parents I know.
