The caller wasn’t comparing McCain’s acts with Benedict Arnold’s as being on the same level. (FWIW she was paraphrasing Thomas Sowell) The point was that previous patriotism in service of the country doesn’t negate current acts of sabotage of one’s country. Anyone who can’t see how thoroughly McCain has sabotaged American interests and the Constitution isn’t paying attention or doesn’t want to.

Hillary has accomplished exactly zip other than getting elected.

Look at how much McCain has already accomplished.

I agree.

But over-the-top hyperbole just negates our message.

There’s a ton of substantive stuff to re-visit about McCain’s senatorial record. Tons of stuff.

There is nothing to be gained from trying to get into splitting hairs once we breath the name Benedict Arnold in the same breath as we’re discussing McCain.

Feel better? I would be interested in discussing his pardons with you but unfortunately my neck hurts from all the turning the other cheek that I have been doing lately.

I agree with you 100%: I thought that it was over the top as well, and wish the caller had not said it and/or that Rush had clarified what I think the original citation was intended to mean (instead of encouraging her). The original quote was intended to point out that one's history of military service does not insulate a person from criticism for their later actions. I think that is a fair point. The choice of Benedict Arnold, however, carries with it a connotation that clearly does not apply to Mr. McCain, regardless of how many of us conservatives feel about him.

My own point was that it is precisely John McCain's record outside of his admirable military service that is his problem. He has become progressively more liberal with time (not just last year), and has almost made a career out of dumping on his fellow Republicans. That's why the media loves him - at least for now.

McCain must know how this works by now: when the media need you, you're a "maverick", an "independent" and a "free thinker"; when they're finished with you, you're simply "unprincipled" and untrustworthy".

The way he's selling out our country to the illegals?

I agree. People that do not live in a border state or an area that is heavily populated with border jumpers do not realize that we are losing the battle to keep our country and that amnesty/open borders proponents are essentially traitors.

Conversation overheard between 2 hispanic dudes:

First dude says, "You know what I like best about the Miami area?"

Second dude, "No, what?"

First dude, "It's so close to the United States!"

Oh, McCain is a backstabber (many levels away from Benedict Arnold and traitor), and the media is going to turn on him when it becomes a two person race, just as you said.
