Well since 2008 has been a disaster and we don't need to bring any of the current candidates back for a redo next cycle, it's time to look ahead.
I for one am of the opinion that my Governor, Haley Barbour would be a good choice if he were to run. His term in Mississippi will be done and he will have made good on his commitment to us. He will have been a two term Governor and is good on a variety of issues. Add to that his performance during Katrina, and the contrast Mississippi was to Louisiana and we have a winner.
So...
Haley Barbour 2012, because he has experience in Disaster Recovery
Jindal 2012!
And if the RNC is smart, they would give Jindal as much exposure as possible at this year’s convention. He is the rising star in the party.
John Thune 2012
For several years now I had been hoping Haley would run. Disappointed he didn’t. Guess I can settle for 2012.:-)
Haley is a great guy. He needs to put smooth stones in his mouth and practice articulation though. Very gravelly, heavily accented voice.
I think Bobby will be like Haley and want to complete the job in LA first, but then I think it will be his turn, he is young and has time, and we’ll need him later.
but 2012 is good.
let's work on him now!
please add me to to your Haley Barbour 2012 ping list if you have one.
(sorry about the spelling of your gov's name, but I'll have 4 years to work on the spelling :o) )
From Wiki:
He gained a national spotlight in August 2005 after Mississippi was hit by Hurricane Katrina. Since then he has been mentioned as a possible 2008 vice presidential candidate. Barbour has ruled out any desire to run for President, and has won re-election as Governor in 2007.[1] Under Mississippi's term limits, Barbour cannot run again for Governor in 2011 when his term ends.
We have three good conservative governors in the South, two proven and one up-and-coming—Barbour in Mississippi, Sanford in South Carolina, and Jindal in Louisiana. I’m just not sure, after Clinton, Bush, and Huckabee, if anybody is going to be ready for yet *another* Southern governor for President in 2012.

But with his term coming to an end...
What about former Governor Robert Ehrlich from my state of Maryland? or Michael Steele, his Lt Governor?
I am thinking about starting one.
So I still want to be on the list.
I think Steele as McCain’s VP choice would be brilliant. Black conservative from a blue state.
Unfortunately, McCain’s most likely has already prostituted himself to Huck.
there would be battles royal every day!
Steele is super conservative and would not be a choice McCain would make.
From Wiki:
"While the reconstruction process doesnt dictate how localities should rebuild, Barbour has touted New Urbanist principles in constructing more compact communities. They have the chance to build some things very differently, he says. The goal is to build the coast back like it can be, rather than simply like it was. [29]
"The CNU's Charter of the New Urbanism says:
We advocate the restructuring of public policy and development practices to support the following principles: neighborhoods should be diverse in use and population; communities should be designed for the pedestrian and transit as well as the car; cities and towns should be shaped by physically defined and universally accessible public spaces and community institutions; urban places should be framed by architecture and landscape design that celebrate local history, climate, ecology, and building practice.
New urbanists support regional planning for open space, appropriate architecture and planning, and the balanced development of jobs and housing. They believe their strategies are the best way to reduce traffic congestion, increase the supply of affordable housing, and rein in urban sprawl. The Charter of the New Urbanism also covers issues such as historic preservation, safe streets, green building, and the renovation of brownfield land.
Not a bad guy, but Romney will undoubtedly be back for the 2012 race presuming McCain loses, and Romney will be the frontrunner in that particular contest.
Heck, McCain may not go for a 2nd term even if he wins this year.
Hear, hear!!!!
Yeah, a fat, smarmy thane of the Bush clan who spent years as a Washington lobbyist.
Just what we need!
