Whoever made that video is an ignoramus. As a zoology major, I will say that wolves do NOT kill for sport, they kill for food, just like every other predator. Removing them completely would entirely screw up the food chain. I watched a presentation by a ranger at Yellowstone and he explained how populations would explode out of control in an uncontrollable chain reaction if wolves were removed from the ecosystem. Predators kill. They have to eat. That’s life. Waaaa a cute little calf was killed. So what, do you have any idea how many of them there are in the world? Sheesh! Deal with it and stop posting whiny, bleeding heart videos on YouTube portraying them as bloodthirsty murderes. Do that for terrorists instead.
Wow I have 40 years in the woods. The wolves have been completely wipe out in say New York state for what 300 years but yet no make believe chain reaction happen did it. Still animals in New York. Wow you have drank the green Kool aid wolves kill for many reason first to eat some times for fun, sometimes they kill to teach the young. It is fairy tale to say they only kill for food. Most of us in the rural area would love to deal with the problem but too many bleeding heart liberals stop us. Wolves are a fake Endangered species. This is to show people what the price our ranchers are paying for bleeding heart liberals shoving wolves down people throat. There is trainwreck coming from the wolves. They will hunt the elk and deer down until hunting season have to be closed. Did the Park ranger tell you about all the people attack by wolves? Did he tell you about the children attacked in Canada by a healthy wolf?
We have our own two legged predators who keep the populations of game animals in check, we don't need wolves, and hunters don't slaughter ranchers cows indiscriminately(except for a few criminal types now and then, but nothing like wolves do). Wolves have no "right" to kill me or any other human. Just because it is their nature to kill doesn't mean we have to let them do it or forgive them for it. Your comment is full of liberal BS and shows your ignorance.
You may be a zoology "major" but that hardly qualifies you as an expert. Especially since your are citing Yellow Stone rangers as your evidence!
Wolves kill, whether for sport or food, and they kill anything they can, including children. Why didn't you cite the old saw that peta types always use? "There have been no documented cases of wolves attacking humans(and they always forget to add, "on the north american continent")" Wolves attack humans, plenty of evidence to back it up. As I said, they may have the right to food, but I have the right to not let them eat me or mine.
You are so right and thank you for common sense.
So, did this ranger explain how less than 10 calves per 100 makes a healthy, sustainable elk herd?
Perfectly stated...
I have my own wolf. He’s all of 18 pounds a little Fox Terrier and he controls the vermin (squirrels) in our backyard that literally eat everything in sight!
They get into the attic and chew wires, they literllay eat our fence...but he’s really helped control the damage!
There are five times as many wolves in and around Yellowstone than they claimed would be the peak numbers when the reintroduced them into the area.
You are correct when you state they kill for food. It just a few years there will be no elk left in Yellowstone.
It used to be that in a herd of 100 elk, there would be 90 calfs, and 60 or more yearlings. Now there will be a few yearlings, but almost no calfs. The wolves and grizzlies are eating them.
Only adults remain in any numbers. Even the adults are down by over 30%. There aren't 10% as many hunters who are there in the fall. (The money for maintaining herds comes from hunting licenses.)
I think the whole reason wolves were reintroduced is to stop hunting. The Federal Fish and Wildlife service is clear full of wolf lovers, so they chase the elk away from hunters.
I live just southeast of Teton Park, so I am familiar with what is happening.
You said all of that very well. Couldn’t agree more.
Here’s my thought: You choose where you live and do business. You move into wolf territory to raise cattle, then you need to allow for some lost cattle. If you don’t like it, go ranch somewhere else.
Then you are a brainwashed zoology major in need of an education.
