When Curtis Williams took the field for the Huskies' 2000 season opener, the University of Washington's media guide described him like this:
Senior, strong safety, 5-foot-10, 200 pounds. Named, in 1999, the team's best hitter. Led team in solo tackles. Went to high school in Fresno, Calif., where he was a top recruit. The seventh of eight kids. Pursuing a degree in American ethnic studies.
Here's what the media guide didn't say:
When Williams played against Idaho, he had a warrant out for his arrest. He'd been arrested every year he was here: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000. He was a convicted felon who'd served time for choking his wife. Two other assault charges were pending against him. He was accused of cutting his wife's face, breaking her arm, breaking her nose.
Ordered to pay $283 a month in child support, Williams had paid nothing. Earlier in the year, he'd flunked two classes. If not for Swahili a notoriously easy class at the UW and a favorite of football players he would have been ineligible to play...

I just read all three parts of this four part series that have been published. I really am just speechless.
the UW just asked taxpayers to pay $150,000,000 for a new stadium.....this is the arrogance in college sports....allowing thugs to take up classroom space and scholarships is just one part of the arrogance....
Huck the Fuskies.

Once again, more evidence that that the now deceased King County prosecutor Norm Maleng was a scum bag to the greatest degree. Maleng also knew that King County Gary Little was physically and sexually abusing boys he "checked out" of juvie hall for his weekend escapades and did nothing to stop him. Everyone in the King County courthouse knew waht Little was doing and did nothing.
Yeah.
And who is the biggest lobbyist pushing for that?
A former Republican governor.
Make that King County Superior Court Judge Gary Little...
Ok
Is there a prison for dead folk?
This guy should be there.
If I were sitting in on the grand jury I would vote to no indict.
Then they should dig him up and put him in prison.
Then, he just happened to hit a guy wrong during the game and got paralyzed. He could have been a choir boy or a demon, both play football. Nothing personal in it, just the cruel geometry and physics of the game. No divine retribution or ironic end. Just a life lived until a sudden stop that seemed almost a non-sequitor to everything up until that point.
If I had been him and had my preferences, I would have rather died on the field. 18 months of being a quadriplegic doesn't sound like much of a life. Maybe it gave him time to seek salvation. God understands it. I don't.
But they are still ridiculously low. A student with the NCAA minimums is not adequately prepared for college and would not likely succeed even if they didn't commit 30 hours per week to their sports.
If you dont show progress to your degree now, you are gone.
That wasnt the case a couple years ago.
Wow, it’s impossible to keep track of all the idiots in this story, as well as the slimy enablers. Unbelievable.
Athletes can get away with anything. The coaches just hope it doesn’t make the news. Very sad.
How about those college degrees these guys get? Makes you proud of the system in this country, doesn’t it?
How do you get 15 hours from one single class???? Intensive Swahili????
I read three or four paragraphs of this article before realizing I had misread the team as “Huskers” instead of “Huskies”........ I was confused. ;^)

It’s not really speed-reading if there’s no comprehension, is it?

Read the story again. His dirty hit was habitual and planned. Fortunately, his intended victim wasn't injured.
Read it.
