Yup, that was Thylacoleo carnifex.
Otherwise known as the Drop Bear.
Think of it as an insane carnivorous koala bear.
They aren’t certain if it climbed trees or not, but they suspect that it was at least an ambush predator.
So the national Aussie joke on foreigners about the ‘drop bear’ might actually have some basis in archeological fact.
