Correction: Temporary home to a great swimmer. Phelps and his coach are returning to their hometown of Baltimore and will have their own aquatic training and coaching facility. Coach Bowman has been the swim coach at UM for the past 4 years.
Sharky, I stand corrected on one point from my previous post upthread... :) My apologies, apparently Phelps was enrolled as a student but wasn't on the UM swim team.
-snip- "Phelps is no dummy though, the Olympic swimmer does not count solely on his good looks, incredible talent or amazing endorsements he has a backup plan. Phelps enrolled at the University of Michigan soon after his coach Bob Bowman took a job as the varsity swim coach at the university. Not wanting to swim for anyone else, Phelps enrolled and served as Bowmans assistant coach for the swim team.Because of Phelps' endorsement deals with Speedo, Omega, Visa and PowerBar, he was forced to forfeit his right to swim for the varsity team because he was not considered an amateur. Phelps kept busy on the campus majoring in Sports Marketing and Managing and helping Bowman coach the team."
What do you do when you achieve that kind of fame and adulation in your early twenties? I do hope he can handle it, he seems like a fine person at this point.
