One thing that really impressed me was the cleanliness of the villages. No trash whatsoever. Beautifully kept streets and walkways.
Coming home yesterday, I was appalled to see that our highways were littered with excessive amounts of litter. There were several miles of blue trash bags (every two feet), lining the interstate, waiting to be picked up.
Why would anyone throw waste out of their car?
Everyone remarks how clean it is here — my pictures never show any trash anywhere, on that five kilometer walk along the Paseo Maritimo in La Coruna I did not see even one cigarette butt.
When I first came to Spain, over 40 years ago, it was not like that, there was trash everywhere. America by comparison was very clean, except for the inner cities. Now things must have deteriorated.
Weeelllllll, in the French speaking parts the wood piles aren't stacked quite as neatly...

When it's not your country, and you're already breaking multiple laws just being there, why respect anything about a country?
