Rip the DVDs to the hard drive and be done with it. :D

Isn't that, umm, a copyright violation?

No, it’s not.

It only becomes a violation if you then give the resulting file or files out to others.

The MPAA is hard at work trying to change that, though.

Were it up to them, we would have to buy one copy for each and every DVD player in the household, even those in our computers.

What software do you use to watch the ripped dvd? I ripped one and the regular dvd player in Leopard wouldn’t play it.

A properly ripped DVD can be watched using the Leopard DVD player. Or if you transformed it to another format, you can watch it with the Quicktime Player or iTunes.

The answer to the headline is, alas, "Yes." I had one of the early Sony Vaio's in brushed aluminum - thin as a watch, fast as all git out, fragile as a little girl. You could put your fingertip on the back while it was on and watch the little black spot on the screen as you moved your finger around.

Haven't handled one of the new Airs yet so I can't say that they've encountered that problem. But bulk has its advantages, especially if you travel a lot. I'll stick with the MacBook for now. Its backup is a neat little Dell running (gasp! Heresy!) Vista. And you know what? I like both of 'em.

I did handle an 'Air and found that it was as stiff and strong as my Macbook Pro... I could not bend it and they let me try. I am not a 97 pound weakling either.

Manager #1: I just got everyone Macbook Airs. They can’t plug into the network but they will fit in an envelope.

Manager #2: Really? We got $2000 bonuses and bigger envelopes.

Does it have a user-replaceable battery ?
... or do you have to back up the entire comp and send it in ?
