Why I'm STILL voting For Fred Thompson
01/24/2008 | davidlachnicht

Posted on 01/24/2008 9:46:42 AM PST by davidlachnicht

I want to speak to every one of you who supported Fred Thompson:

I have long ago combed the websites of the candidates, read the threads that chided or extolled their records,
and tried to gage their character even though filtered and massaged by their supporters and the MSM.
With Fred's withdrawl, and now left without a candidate for the upcoming primary,
I have re-reviewed the GOP hopefuls, and dismayed that I am satisfied with none.

When I go to the polls, I will still be voting for Fred Thompson, and the more I've thought about it, the more I urge Fred-Heads to do the same.

If you believe as I do, that Mr. Thompson was the only Conservative
(that is, the only Conservative who wouldn't allow us to be pushed around by International concensus-ism or slaughtered by radical Islam),
then vote to continue to have convention delegates "promised" to Fred.

IF YOU WANT TO SEND A MESSAGE,
ONE THAT CANNOT HELP BUT BE HIGHLY VISIBLE
TO THE GOP AND THE MSM, VOTE FRED.

I don’t know, but I do know I won’t be voting for a grasping, pro-amnesty, pro-illegal, socialist like the Huckster.

I will be joining you, and voting for Fred.

The RNC needs to stop treating conservatives like garbage.

I already voted for Fred but if given the chance to vote again tomorrow I would vote for him again.

In my opinion if one of the NE liberal puke twins gets the nomination a big chunk of the Republican base will be so disgusted they will leave the party for good.

All the lunch bucket Republicans that it took 25 years to gather will be scattered to the wind!

That’s my plan (vote for Thompson if he’s still on the ballot).. Heck in 2000 Bill Bradley got 35% of the Democrat vote here in Kentucky, and he withdrew in April..

Only reason Fred hasn’t gained traction is that all the states to this point had open primaries and caucuses. Closed Primaries are where its at...

Jump Back in Fred

Hillary is not running for the Republican nomination.

At the least, vote for Fred in the Primary.

If you have to vote anti-Hillary in the general, I undestand.

“I’ve never given up on Phil Gramm, so I’ll be voting for him.”

I was disappointed to see Phil Gramm working for the McCain campaign. It’s too bad, I used to admire Phil Gramm as well.

I wonder what would happen if all of Fred’s supporters sent an email to his site confirming their belief in him?

Well, we have been telling the early states to vote their conscience. I don’t think anything has changed. I can’t vote for any of the other candidates. So why not vote for Fred. It does not matter who wins the Republican primary. They are all bad, in different ways. And none of them will win in the general election.

Personally I don’t understand why people think politics is an all or nothing game. Every political decision involves relative choices and compromise. A Reagan only comes along once in a lifetime, the rest of the time we make the best choices we can based on what’s before us. Do you have the perfect job, the perfect car, the perfect spouse? No, there’s always something potentially better, but you make the best choices you can based on what’s available to you. This is true in life, and it’s certainly true in politics.

Well, I know it's not possible, but I'm hoping they all lose. :)

In Texas I'm not sure that's a good plan.

Texas

Congressional district delegates are elected by congressional district caucuses, and at-large delegates are elected by the state convention. Congressional districts are allocated by the primary results within each district. At-large delegates are allocated by the statewide primary results. These delegates are awarded on a winner-take-all basis if a candidate receives a majority of votes cast. If there is no majority winner, delegates are allocated on a proportional basis to the presidential candidates who receive 20% or more of the votes cast in the presidential primary.

[Red my addition]

Looks like even if I vote for Hunter or Fred in March 3rd Primary if they don't get at least 20% all goes to the biggest vote getter. Sounds like a bit of a crap shoot.

Texas polls to date:

IVR Polls

Margin of Error: +/- 3.6%
Sampling Size: 735

January 10, 2008 Mike Huckabee 26%, John McCain 24%, Fred Thompson 12%, Mitt Romney 11%, Rudy Giuliani 10%, Ron Paul 4%, Duncan Hunter 3%, Alan Keyes 0%, Undecided 8% - Past GOP Primary voters

With Hunter and Thompson out it appears Huckabee and Rudy are the front runners hers. I don't want either. I also don't want McCain. I can't see Newt in the job either.

Since my first two choices are out (Hunter and Thompson) I've had to do a lot of rethinking. Only one canidiate remains that is conservative, alibet a moderate one, and that is Romney.

If the latest poll is an indication, I'm not doing to good.
