LONGVILLE — A Longville woman was mauled to death in bed by her two pit bulls on Sunday.

According to Beauregard sheriff's officials, Kelli Chapman, 24, may have been sleeping when the mauling occurred sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies were dispatched to 586 Martin-Baggett Road after the woman's husband, Jason Chapman, called 911 at around 7 p.m.

BPSO spokesman Robert L. McCullough said that Chapman returned from work around 6:45 p.m. and found his wife in their bedroom, where she was sleeping when he left for work at around 10:30 a.m.

Chapman said the pit bills — a 4-year-old male and a 1-year-old female — lived in the house and slept with the couple. He said that when he left for work, the dogs were in the bedroom with his wife.

These may not be a good breed of dogs to sleep with.

The breed exists solely to do this type of behavior.

Another reason to get rid of this breed. I have employees that work that have pits and love them, but I will have to show this article to them in the morning...

Veterinarian Ted Hoerner, who owns the clinic where the pit bulls were taken for necropsy, said all dogs have the potential to be aggressive and attack. "It's more of the dog and not the breed," he said. "Any dog has the potential to be aggressive."

A bad guy might beware, but our mutts would most likely drown me in a pool of slobber kisses.

Sheriff's deputies were forced to shoot the dogs. They were taken to an area veterinary hospital as part of the investigation. "The entire parish is saddened at this loss. What the sheriff's department has asked me to do is test the stomach content and the jaw to match up the bite pattern with the marks on the victim," says Ted Hoerner.

The victim's body was sent to the Calcasieu Coroner's Office in Lake Charles. Family members say the Chapman's have owned the dogs since they were puppies and they never showed signs of aggression.

Breed has little to do with it...
Dogs are like children...they’re only as good as their owner.
Dogs don’t belong in bed with the “pack leader/s”
They belong on the floor!
It’s obvious this woman was NOT a “pack leader” and the dogs did not respect her as a “pack leader.” And she paid with her life for failure to train the dogs properly.

The majority of people out there who own dogs are like the majority of people who have children; neither knows how to raise either properly. And neither have any business with either.

Aggressive? Murderous more so. I can guarantee my Pomeranian would never do that.

You know, though, as I’m sure you’ve had this conversation before, that the part that makes pitts so deadly is their unique jaws. I would have nothing to do with that breed, and if I see one anywhere near my neighborhood, out comes my golf club, and if it persists, it’ll be gone. Trust me, I’ve got 3 little kids & a neighborhood of kids, I don’t mess with pitts.

Breed has little to do with it...

This lady would be alive today if her 2 dogs were toy poodles instead of pit bulls !

All dogs can be potentially dangerous, however some dogs are more dangerous than others. Various types of breeds can be considerably stronger and larger than a person of average size. Training, socialization and proper care can make a significant impact, however some dogs are by years of breeding more aggressive. After in depth research and analyzing the studies performed by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the CDC, and the Humane Society of the United States, we have compiled the top ten most dangerous dog breeds.

FYI, I’ve seen poodles bite the hell out of their owners and their children.

It’s not the dogs, it’s the owners who fail to exercise & discipline their dogs.
The dog becomes the “pack leader” and that is why this woman was bitten up and died. She infringed on the dogs territory(the bed) and paid for it with her life.
A poodle could have done the similar damage and she could/would have bled to death.

>the top ten most dangerous dog breeds.<

Alaskan Malemutes? Give me a break! That website is a glaring example of why you do not believe everything you read on the internet.

The site pings the Malemute and the Siberian Husky and totally ignores the far more human-aggressive Akita.

Be curious to know if the attack was triggered by a period. I have read of animals becoming aggressive towards a woman who is menstruating.
