Professional extreme skier Billy Poole died this afternoon after taking a fall while filming in Big Cottonwood Canyon between Solitude and Brighton ski resorts.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Paul Jaroscak said the 28-year-old died around 1:30 p.m. at University Hospital. Poole was filming a jump, had a bad landing, and possibly hit some rocks, Jaroscak said. Earlier reports of an avalanche in the area were false, he said.
Poole was filming in the area with Boulder, Colo.-based Warren Miller Entertainment. A spokesman reached at the company's corporate headquarters said the company is still trying to learn details about the accident Billy Poole and will release a statement later today.
Poole was one of dozens of skiers sponsored by Black Diamond, a ski and climbing equipment distributor in Salt Lake City. The company's Web site includes an interview with Poole about a trip to Argentina, where he skied and filmed over the summer.

Certainly not unexpected! Live fast, die young.
Sad,,,,,,,,,,, Prayers out to his family.
Condolences to his family.
He Died doin what he loved.
Not many men get to do that. Feel sorry for the family left behind, but I think after viewing those photos this guy loved the outdoors and had a serious adrenalin addiction.
which doesn't make him a bad person, just someone you don't want to follow around unless you've got health insurance and death benefits designated.
I know a couple guys who died on family slopes.
This kid must have had some major cajones.
I’ll bet he enjoyed life.
Prayer up!
“kinda young, but went out doing what he loved. Not many men get to do that.”
I have planned, for years, to go out doing what I love. Living! :)
Bad week to be 28.
more sad news here
I hate to say it, but I do believe that death comes to celebrities in threes.
I hope this is the third. Young and tragic is not a good death.
RIP
yea.
there is a good pic of him here (in sunglasses) that I can’t seem to post.

What a cutie.
What a shame. This has been an awful week.
He loved extreme skiing and and he knew the dangers of it. That goes with all extreme sports.
That said, at least he died doing what he loved.
RIP Billy.
Great pictures; I set the 2nd one as my new wallpaper.
Shame.
Personally I think it’s a miracle any of these guys survive the skiing they do... the stuff they do is beyond comprehension.
