Trio loved speedy cars
Boulder Daily Camera ^ | Sunday, January 20, 2008 | Heath Urie

Fast cars were what Flaherty, 21, was all about, his family said Saturday, which is why they aren't all that surprised that's how he and two of his closest friends -- Lucas Raymond Snyder, 21, and Amber Dawn Kowalski, 23, who each shared that penchant for speed -- died early Friday when the car they were traveling in crashed at more than 100 mph into a light pole at the corner of McCaslin Boulevard and West Cherry Street in Louisville. ----- Lorie Flaherty said it "really isn't a shock to any of us" that her brother died in a high-speed crash.

"The thing that really makes me feel much better about this is they died doing what they loved to do -- they were drinking, they were going fast and they were together," Lorie Flaherty said. "It gives me comfort, it does, to know those three things."

This "news story' is such a crock. If you read the comments at the link, you will see most readers, even in the Peoples' Republic of Boulder, are appalled by the article. It was only later in the day that the wacknuts crawled out from under their rocks to lecture us who were outraged on civility. And so it goes.

I guess we each have our own way to deal with grief.

Prayers for Lorie's brother and Amber Dawn.

The whole first sentence is so devoid of common sense, it is astounding that an editor let it slide.

“Yep, we wuzn’t sur-prised when those three cranked up the MPH and wrapped the car around that there light pole and killed them selves. Nope-we wuz sure expectin’ it any day now.”

The assertion made me so ill, I stopped reading right there, What a crock!

Oh, you should have read further. The real money quote is in the next paragraph:

"The thing that really makes me feel much better about this is they died doing what they loved to do -- they were drinking, they were going fast and they were together," Lorie Flaherty said.

At least they didn't take any innocents out with them the way too many other drunk drivers do.

What was the title of that Peter Fonda movie where he and two others drove into a train in a fiery surprise ending? They were in a yellow Mopar of some type, and most of the movie was a chase.

You can take my speedy car when you pry its steering wheel out of my cold, dead fingers. Er, that seems a bit too real in this situation...

These kids were criminals not heroes. Thank God they offed themselves before they killed innocent others.

Would everyone still be so happy if they took out a van filled with a family on vacation while they were just doing what they loved?

Condolences to the families of the deceased, but I cannot help but think to myself that the gene pool has just been cleansed a little bit.

You both are more intrepid than I am.

My head would have exploded reading that inane statement.

Talk about a shallow end of the gene pool......

True ... but the girl left behind a baby son. No mention of a father, and she obviously had poor judgment ... I hope the little guy turns out OK.

Ay, yes, the Daily Camera. Just the place for a post-modern deconstruction of the story of three drunk kids killing themselves.
