My piece about Hunter ending his candidacy (Vanity)
Posted on 01/19/2008 9:51:57 PM PST by wastedyears
The things I could say to the Hunter detractors will give the Mods and JimRob massive heart attacks. But I wont do that.
I do hope youre all happy now. You, along with the others and the lame-stream media, have succeeded in forcing Hunter to drop out. After him, there isnt any other Conservative in the race. No, Thompson doesnt come close as hes supported amnesty, campaign-finance reform and voted to give China permanent MFN status. You all have succeeded in forcing our absolute best chance of turning this country around to drop out. The one man who wont sell this country out to Cuba, Venezuela, China, Russia, North Korea, or any of our enemies in the Middle East. The one man who WILL get the border fence built in six months; Im willing to travel south to provide security in any capacity to ensure the fence is built. The only guy who would prevent more American jobs from being shipped overseas.
No, Im not supporting anybody else for the Presidency. I intend to write him in for the Primary and General in CT. Weve already lost our only chance to save this country.
Everybody else is just unacceptable.

I am so with you on that. I am not voting the rest of the primary. I will vote against Hillary in the general, but even IF the GOP nominee did pull it off, all of them are such frauds to begin with that it will be more of the same. I am done after this election with ‘settling’ for the GOP however.

Hunter’s biggest obstacle was, ironically, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY and the ill-informed voters(puts and end to the myth the GOP/conservatives were really well informed to begin with! I have known Hunter for 5 yrs. and I’m from NY). And when they actually did discover him they loved him, but the GOP was all about ‘celebrity’, empty ‘names’ rather than competence. Hunter would have all the spotlight in a general election and that would take care of that and then he could work his greatness. And, yes, he would’ve been the man who could have kept the ‘red’ states(and keeping Ohio, Virginia) and best to expand to certain ‘blue’ states(MI, PA, WI) with his trade stance, but NO. The GOP has really squandered it all in the name of empty ‘names’. Rather than the record, personal abilities of the candidate’s themselves. Hunter is incomparable. No doubt the media/Demonrats would fear him the most and they showed it the excessive way they avoided so much as MENTIONING him throughout this process.

It’s a lot better to be lost in our ‘fantasy’ because this world really is in bad shape. And it will remain so with the remaining pathetic candidates. This is what ‘electability’ has brought us to. Better hope they can live up to the ‘electable’ factor. And what happens IF they actually got to the presidency? Hello moderates!!

Your guy exits just as Freds campaign hits a major bump due to him never becoming the consensus conservative, thanks in large part by the unappeasable Hunterites taking their constant pot-shots at Fred here on FR and elsewhere.
What a bunch of hypocrites. You deride Hunter for his polling number being to insignificant to stay in the race and yet you know claim his candidacy was significant enough to effect Thompson. Either you were lying before about Hunter's irrelevancy or you have been lying all along about Thompson's effectiveness.
You claim to be Conservatives while constantly slinging insults about the only Conservative who was in the race. You destroyed your only chance to restore Conservatism to the GOP. Don't whine and moan in the future when you suddenly realize there is another George Bush or worse occupying the White House. You deserve your fate.
So what are you guys going to do now?
I know this will seem like a very strange concept to many of you but we will continue to support Conservatism, unlike many on this website, by writing in a Conservative instead of continuing to succumbing to incremental Socialism by voting for the likes of Thompson, Romney, Huckabee, Giuliani, McCain or Paul.

At this point McCain is more ‘electable’ than old Fred. Fred will be more than happy if his buddy Johnny gets the nomination. And you can join in with the happiness. No amount of excuses from you Frauds is going to change the fact they have been close allies in the Senate and good buddies. And Fred led McCain’s previous effort. So, enjoy your unelectable ‘conservative’!

I will say that of the remaining vandidates that Romney looks the most ‘electable’. You know, he’s actually alive and healthy and good looking. And he’s about as ‘conservative’ as Fred. Hey, if Fred can apologize and explain away contradictions, why can’t Romney?!!

Fred getting the nomination would assure a repeat of Clintoon/Dole and yet Fred is Dole WITHOUT the military/personal story or notable Senate career.

We need a conservative in the White House.
You had your chance but you blew that chance by supporting one of the faux Conservatives.
A large part of that was name and face recognition. Hunter was just not known by anyone. People have seen Thompson on television for years, and most good conservatives saw The Hunt For Red October in prior years. Thompson was a rational, practical choice for conservatism.
Your criteria for President is a candidate who portrayed fictional characters on T.V and in the movies only illustrates how so many people focus on the irrelevant ephemeral, touch feely aspects of a candidate instead of where they stand on issues. It's no wonder with that type of thinking the socialist media has so much influence on the masses.
I really liked Hunter and would prefer him, but he had no chance compared with the others the public might actually recognize.
You perceived he had no chance because you were too busy watching Fred play on T.V. and the movies and being influenced by the socialist media and its polls. They've done their job well.

Duncan Hunter was my second choice after Tancredo. Both are outstanding conservatives. Fred was my third choice. I never thrashed Fred - I did and still believe he makes a good candidate. While some thrashed him for his flip flops, to me that was not an issue since he flipped to the right side. He needs to come out swinging against McCain.

Dont freak out.
Pointing out the fact the GOP just destroyed the last chance to restore Conservatism to the party is hardly "freaking out".

It was time for Hunter to drop out. Its too bad though. He is a good man and true conservative.
What does that say about this nation when people show so little support for a rock solid Conservative? It means many who claim to be conservative are too intent on being so called compassionate, moderate, centrist conservatives. The only thing that has does for the Republican party is continue its move towards socialism.

Remember these are Republican primary voters!! Here we all thought Republicans/conservatives could see through that and were actually informed! Confirms that the GOP is not the place to be.

Because the Duncan Snipers have been attacking Fred, saying hes not a true conservative, tearing down the best candidate since Ronald Reagan all because if they cant have their candidate, then no one can.
But how can Hunter supporters have so much influence on flip flopping Fred when we are such a minority as you claim? Fred's flip flops on issues are fact and you have bought into the hype. If Thompson is the best candidate since Ronald Reagan then the latter wasn't as much of a Conservative many believed.

That’s what they all say in elections. Personal history has shown repeated bad judgment on some very important issues. Besides, Fred cannot win a general election and since that is of the utmost importance, why don’t those who have preached that throughout this process stay consistent. Oh, but they support the original flip-flopper so I guess that makes it ok? Fred will be more than happy to endorse McCain.
