I got a letter from that new group Trent Lott is trying to start. It had a little questionnaire, and to their credit, it did have Duncan Hunter’s name on the list of candidate choices. And of course, it asked for money. I wrote him back that I am not sending ANY money to ANY Republican who doesn’t support Duncan Hunter for President. I know it won’t mean a thing to them, but it made me feel better. I don’t trust any of them as far as I can throw them.
How is it his fault when most of the MSM never gave him any attention to begin with?
This sounds like something one of my teenage children could have written. They too have this blame shifting problem, instead of admitting real fault if it lies with them. Of course, that’s normal behavior for teenagers, and they’ll outgrow it soon.
Give Duncan Hunter credit, he stood up like a man and admitted that the fault with his campaign lied with himself. He took responsibility and didn’t blame anyone else. It’s a pity that this supporters don’t have the stones to do the same.
I don’t care how good you think Hunter was on the issues, his campaign was terrible and that’s a fact. It wasn’t a media shut-out, it wasn’t mean old FReepers not paying him enough attention, it wasn’t Rush’s fault for not endorsing him. It was Hunter’s fault either directly or indirectly for picking a campaign staff that was deaf, blind and dumb.
Hunter has been in Washington for over 30 years. He knows what talent’s available to run a campaign. He knows who’s who in that arena.
By your line of thinking giving up what we believe is acceptable for the sake of winning at all costs to prevent the Socialists from taking control of the White House. The major flaw of this type of thinking prevalent in the GOP is your are accepting what is perceived as just a little bit of socialism now to stop more socialism later. In the end you gradually have the socialism you are trying to avoid. I prefer to stop it now because later never arrives.
My thinking is consistent and practical. I am behind the most conservative person left standing. Hunter helped carry the conservative flag. Thompson is the next best, but the only practical one in light of the lack of success or Alan Keyes or Duncan Hunter.
When talking with people about Hunter, many didn’t even know who he was. Heck, not that many knew right off the bat who Thompson was, despite having some poll standing.
We did not descend into liberalism in a day, a year, or a decade. The transition took decades. The transition back will take the same.
If you are to be practical, you need to keep this in mind.
I have just about come to the conclusion that less than 5% of US citizens have the most remote clue on what it takes to run a country and what type of person is needed to make decisions for the best of the country and not themselves.
“No doubt the media/Demonrats would fear him the most and they showed it the excessive way they avoided so much as MENTIONING him throughout this process.”
True. Hunter was the real deal, and they knew it.
It has been for a while, it's only now becoming obviously apparent.
Seems that way. Where's a good site for us now?
“You have a far too optimistic attitude”
Probably so. Guess I hate to see the changes taking place in the U.S., getting ugly.
May be time for a third party since the GOP is heading left. A true conservative would have more of a chance with:
1/3 Americans: Third party
1/3 Americans: GOP
1/3 Americans: Dems
.
And maybe a site that isn’t Google-bound?
George Washington’s farewell address predicted our partisan decay spot on.
“I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the state, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.”

Free Republic has been overtaken by RINOs.

***Maybe Capernia’s Bar of Integrity?

BTW, it had become obvious to me when there was so much support for tootyfruityrudy on this website, which drove JimRob to finally open up the BugZapper thread. If Fred drops out, maybe JimRob will implement this suggestion I put forward on a couple of threads:
When all the smoke clears, if Hunter doesnt get the nomination, I have one more suggestion for all of us remaining conservative freepers. It would make sense for us to have an idealogy score, a set of questions with rankings of how important the issue is and how strongly a freeper agrees/disagrees with it. We could all put these results on our home pages, so that when another freeper is debating with us (or us with them) we could just go to their home page, check their score on that issue & others, and realize Ohhh, this is a Ron Paul supporter or ohh, this guy is a small l libertarian or ohh, this guy is a Big F FISCAL Conservative and a small l social liberal.
Its okay for FR to be inundated with RINOs or have a bunch of liberals posting here, as long as theyre up front about it.
There's the rub.
Thanks for the link.
The Lord Himself also warns of evil times and wicked governments in Chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation in the Bible.
Wickedness has its time, but it also will have an end.
Paul? There is a fair amount of legit criticism to be made of Ron Paul, but I don't think 'Socialism' fits the bill.
That is the case against Fred. You can only say that when there is fair play. Fred has only proven that he truly ‘can’t win’.
Or you could just not vote. When the candidates left are really just as ‘moderate’ as the next and there really is not much difference between them because they will screw you as their records show as being part of ‘compromise’ you might as well write in.
Trent Lott is what is typical of the Republican party and that’s the problem. I wouldn’t have anything to do with any group Lott was involved with.
“He was one of 435 not the leader of 435. A very big difference.”
As Chairman and ranking member of the Armed Services Committee, he has much more influential than your mocking comment. Other than being the zzzz-list actor, what did Fred ‘lead’ in the Senate besides campaign finance reform? You really are one to talk when you are a supporter of such an underwhelming man.
