Dallas head coach Wade Phillips has been informed that Jason Garrett will turn down head coaching opportunities with the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens and remain as the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, sources told ESPN's Ed Werder.
Garrett
Sources told ESPN.com that Garrett, who spent several hours meeting with Atlanta officials earlier in the day, huddled with Dallas owner Jerry Jones on Wednesday night. Garrett met with the Ravens on Monday night and part of the day Tuesday before flying to Atlanta for a follow-up session.
The Cowboys could offer Garrett a substantial raise and the tacit promise that he will eventually succeed Phillips within the next couple years.

Wade, see that? That’s the door. Right over there.
I think the playoff loss, showed that Garrett isn’t quite ready yet. There were no adjustments made to counter the Giants effective pass rush in the fourth quarter, and a lot of that falls on Garrett’s shoulders.
Garrett would be wise to stay at the nurturing bosom of Valley Ranch, with an owner that thinks the world of him, and will let him grow into being an effective head coach of one of the most presigious franchises in all of sports.
As a falcon fan, I’d rather have Rex Ryan.
Yep, it was Garrett’s and Sparano’s Offense that failed that game. The Defense had its bad moments, but held the Giants to 21. The Dallas O should of been able to overcome that if they were really a playoff caliber team. But that OL looked like last years OL. That last play Witten and Barber were held backed to help with blocking. Witten should of been sent on a route instead.
AKA the Talk Radio buffoons and their Sportswriter brethen have it right.
Romo was sacked too many times by Jessica in Cabo!
Sarcasm Off!
I posted something to that effect on the Sporano thread - lots of work to do at Valley Ranch. Mold that talent into a championship team Jason!
Good for two reasons .... it would disrupt the current offensive plans, and he’s just not ready yet to be a head coach.
The last play was called “Everybody run and Tony will throw the ball in the air”
So what was Crayton’s excuse?
I still say it’s the “Curse of Laura Miller” going back to when she was planning the Mavs’ victory parade route after Game 2 of the Finals.
Oh yeah, I’m all over that. Maybe that explains the ball coming out of his hand wildly and missing a sure TD to TO early on.
Then again, maybe he injured it somehow in some sort of contact with Jessica down yonder in Mexico. That would constitute a personal foul for sure.
Crayton Sucks: that’s his excuse.
Sure am glad he’s locked up long term now /S
Garrett presser at 2pm Cowboys Standard Time
Hope he announces he has initiated a coup and is taking over.
There are aerospace engineers who claim Staubach was responsible for Jackie Smith’s dropped ball in Super Bowl XIII.
That Son of a Bum Wade, will be out of a job by June.
Naturally I recorded the game and replayed it numerous times. That was a TD if ding-dong keeps running.
The only other possible explanation that exonerates him is that he and Romo are not in sync as they might be after years of work together, as you find in a Manning to Harrison tandem.
