Has El Rushbo actually forgotten how our coalition was built?
"Both McCain and Huckabee are actively seeking support from non-Republicans. If I didn't know better, I'd say some of these candidates have some sort of grudge against the Republican Party and are trying to harm it."
Seems like he has. Think what you will about McCain or Huckabee, but Rush is not right on this one. In fact, there was another guy who appealed to Democrats and Independents in building a winning electoral coalition. Rush has heard of him... and even has an affectionate name for him: Ronaldus Magnus.
I know all the concerns people have about McCain -- and they are well founded. Trick is, in order to allow that Mitt Romney is a conservative, one must also assume Mike Huckabee is a conservative as well. Visit MikeHuckabee.com and view his positions on issues instead of listening to the establishment hit police. What you will see is the rebuilding of the coalition years of Bush/Clinton/Bush has eroded.
But here's what he actually DID...http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1953125/posts
But Ronald Reagan consistently espoused traditional conservative principles, as opposed to pandering to the opposition. Proof that adhering to conservative principles is a winning strategy.
Mr. Huckabee, Had you signed up for Free Republic even a year ago, maybe your views wouldn’t be closer to Mrs. Clinton than President Reagan.
The guy is not even a newbie yet (at least not for another 25 minutes).
Huckabee cheerleader ping!
Rush is a blowhard and not nearly as smart as some of you would like to believe.
Looks like Huckabee found another buyer for his new conservatism.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Are we there yet?
I am one of the original blue collar Reagan supporters and the huckster will never get my vote.
I knew from the title that this was a) baseless, b) posted by a noob, and c) on behalf of McCain or the Huckster.
At this risk of pointing out the obvious, Reagan didn’t sell his party’s core principles down the river to win the favor of democrats. He articulated conservatism with clarity, reason, wit and grace. McCain possesses none of the above, and nothing short of a magic lamp, a genie and four wishes will ever change that.
Return to the future, ye troll!
I bet Thompson will.
:-)
Do you???
Do you???
I do. :-)
No thanks!
Huckabee said: “You really don’t have a primary race. Why don’t you come on over to our primary and vote for me. You don’t have to believe a thing I say, just come on over and mess with our election.”
Big difference.
What good is a “rebuilt Reagan coalition” if it is not built on Reagan’s principles?
Ever heard the phrase “you can’t put a shine on a turd?”
Huckabee is that turd.
Huckabee on the one hand calls himself a Reagan conservative, and on the other Huckabees campaign manager declares the Reagan coalition to be dead. Your candidate needs to stop talking out of both sides of his mouth.
Romney may be contradicted his positions of 5 years ago, but at least he doesnt change his mind every 5 hours. Of course it is better to stay consistently conservative (like Fred), but if given a choice I will definitely NOT be voting for a pro-life socialist.
Huckabee is a used car salesman, plain and simple!
Welcome to Free Republic.
Huckabee does have a nice website with some great positions; however, they look NOTHING like the way he has governed. These are politically expedient positions.
I just cannot trust him.
