With a heavy heart I deliver the sad news that our friend Maila Nurmi, famous for her portrayal of Vampira, has passed at age 86. Maila passed away peacefully in her sleep at home. Funeral arrangements are pending legal steps as Maila had no relatives. Her friends are trying to get her a spot at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and will likely plan some sort of hearse procession for her.

I had one hellacious crush on her as a

R.I.P.

I’m sure I had a model kit featuring her as a kid,she was in in some kinda torture chamber. She was right at home with my “glow in the dark” wolfman, Franky and Phantom of the O.

“elvira, vampira, whats the dif?”

A lot of years. Vampira even tried (unsuccessfully) to sue elvira for stealing her act.

Was in Ed Wood movies. Ed, as you’ll remember, had Bela
Lugosi in “Plan 9” but Bela died during filming so a chiropractor was brought in as a “double” to finish the role.

I had no idea she died.

And I think I didn't notice that Brad Renfro has been missing breakfast, either.

After Maila accepted the role for Plan 9, she realized how bad it was going to be, and told Wood she didn't want any lines.

She was married (at some point) to the writer of Dirty Harry.

Also, Rock Hudson's agent blew off, er, dismissed out of hand, a friend of hers, so she got a gang together, and one night, they deposited a mattress and a Pond's Cold Cream sign in the agent's front yard.

Back in the 1950s, that was cause for news and rumor in "the business".

thanks for that info; yes, I guess she was willing to take
the paycheck, however small it was, from Wood, but didn’t
want to have to memorize any lines!

I forgot to add that she was a roomie of Norma Jean Baker, and iirc, an uncle was a Olympic medal winner for Finland.
