January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

WOW!!! I seriously didn’t expect them to find it in NC.
Are they saying how long it’s been parked there?

They aren’t. They aren’t even saying it’s his FOR SURE at this point. I mean, it’s got to have his license plates on it, right?
15 miles from Durham.
With everything dropped & parked & spotted all over the place it sure sounds that way.
Ok. Where are our Raleigh FReepers? Lol! Someone should head over there and figure this out. News is so slow. Lol!
It’s right near the airport.....obviously.
Ditch truck at hotel. Take shuttle to airport. At airport take transportation to bus station. Dispose of ATM card and ID near bus station. Then where?
LOL...I can be there in 2.5 hours. :)
Another press conference is scheduled for 4:00 according to FOX
Lets see,
all this started on Friday?
How long does it take to fly to New Zealand?
Either that or he’s one dumb person. His eyes don’t align quite right. We already know he isn’t playing with a full deck.
Lol! You go girl!
No, really — did you or anyone notice if there were plates on the truck? They could check the VIN in just a few minutes.
I would imagine he ditched the ATM card on Saturday before he went to the hotel and later a shuttle to the airport. He probably flew somewhere (maybe out of the country). When did the FBI alert come out - Sunday? It would be a lot harder to get on a plane after they issued a warrant. Wonder if they’ll be checking airport logs for Sat/Sun time frame.
Mexico City, blend in, speaks the language, we’ll never see him ever again.
The ONLY hope then is he left a wife and a child behind. Maybe he’ll make contact.
***Surely he could not have flown anywhere, right? They released his information pretty fast......****
We can’t compare the posters on this thread to the general flying public out there. When flying, you are so removed from breaking news - can barely use your cell phones or Blackberries. I’m not sure if the ticket counter staff gets photo alerts on fugitives - and the lines are so long & stressed - Laurean could get through security & board a plane relatively easily - like any regular sociopath.
