The state’s capital litigation office in Raleigh has appointed a capital defender for Laurean, something Onslow County District Attorney Dewey Hudson called “not normal.”

Hudson said such action typically comes after a suspect’s arrest.

“I have many questions, too,” he said of the NCIS investigation. “I have some concerns about it. I want them to tell me about that. I don’t know why they’re not doing a more aggressive job of defending themselves.”

I think his wife is in cahoots with it all. Handing over the letter while he takes off on the run. Unless she’s a total flufferbat, she’s been in on this to some degree for a long time.

I wonder if she has her own attorneys.

Ruh-roh. Looks like the wife may be asked to take a polygraph. Why would she say 4 am if he was still there at 6:30? It makes her look worse that she waited 4 hours to tell people at the base.

She’s either very smart or very stupid.

I bet she has planned her defense.

From the article:

Investigators began to narrow their focus on him Jan. 7, he said, and asked him to come in for an interview. But Laurean’s attorneys blocked those requests, Brown said.

Laurean was scheduled to meet with sheriff’s investigators the day before Lauterbach’s remains were discovered. His attorneys canceled the meeting, Brown said.

It seems that his attorneys bear some of the blame here as well...

Uh-huh. I’ll bet she’s hating the man she married right about now. Nice of him to leave her to cover and deflect.

These neighbors sure are a chatty lot. Seems they’re getting their 15 HOURS of fame. Wonder why authorities haven’t asked them to not talk to the press.

I can’t wait to hear when Dan Durham, the Marine she moved in with for protection, was sent to California. Can’t wait.

Any idea what that means? She isn't being held in custody last I heard. What's a capital defender? Does this have to with federal cases or capital punishment? Is this because she has asked for a lawyer, thus her interviews are over?

Whoops, my mistake. The capital defender thing is for Cesar Laurean, not his wife.

I read this to apply to him not her as they mention it as unusual to appoint one before arrest.

The Capital Defender typically represents clients facing the death penalty. Interesting.

I think this is meant for the husband. I’d hazard a guess and say it means the state intends this to be a statement to insure his life isn’t snubbed out in a mad shootout and to let him know the state intends he’s should be captured, not killed. Home of NIFONG. Innocent until proven guilty. The only thing anyone can reasonably assume as of this point in time is that he was complicit in her disposal. He may NOT have killed her.

If we now know he had several alias, I will reasonably assume NCIS knew this as well.

NCIS desperately, desperately needs Marines to be cold blooded killers.

How desperate is NCIS, is the question.
