January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
You have all made excellent observations. As hard as I try, the image of women fighting in combat doesn’t work.
Men & women are different & no amount of psychobabble can alter what the Creator intended.
Women have wombs and men were designed to protect them...everything else is Broadway.
I know of women who have died in combat. Yet I recall reading that the US has a policy of not sending women into combat zones. One poster told me that is false, that there is no policy against sending women into combat.
Per WRAL the news conference has been delayed until 3:00 PM ET.
HI! How are you?
***...sending women into combat zones...***
I remember the fuss that was made over POW Jessica (???) who had to be rescued. She was not a combatant, but member of a supply battalion.
Guess there are not enough men volunteering and/or there’s that equal opportunity law.
Please God...Bring back the draft and tea parties.
I agree that women don’t belong in combat. I believe they can serve in other areas.
I also agree with you on the whole pregnancy issue.
Your reply did not make me angry, but I’m sure I will make somebody angry as I reveal how politically incorrect I am when I say that I see nothing wrong with mandatory birth control of some sort.
***Funny how there are no neighbors or colleagues making public statements..***
Finally on Fox - a neighbor reports that he saw Lauterbach’s blue Honda on Laurean’s property (he noticed it because it was like his ex-wife’s.
THIS IS HUGE - that means the wife had to go with him to the Bus Station to drop it off!!!!!!!!
So sad listening to the Sheriff discuss the findigs in the back yard. Both mother and child are in the shallow grave. He is describing the “fetus”’s curled up hand.
I agree - the sheriff is visibly upset by what he has found.
I’m still amazed how he could burn the bodies without alarming neighbors. One noticed a blue Honda ... they had to notice the fires, at least the smells.
District attorney up - arrest warrant has been issued
Says the friends of Mr. Laurean have been helping with the investigation. I hope they bring him in alive.
I feel sad over what happened to Maria and the baby, makes me want to weep. Hope Cesar receives the death penalty. Sure seems like the wife or his mother or somebody else was involved. I am angry that the military failed to protect her from this creep.
I wonder where Mrs. Laurean was when her husband was barbequing in the yard. I just want to throw up.
I wonder if they’ve struck some deal with Christina.
How big is his property? I suppose you could disguise a fire pit as something else if your neighbors are a good distance away...plus having the wife & kid playing in the yard, would make everything look nice & normal.
Based on the press conference question about who was present in the house at the time of the murder & cover-up - the Sheriff stepped around the wife’s involvement.
I wonder. Perhaps they have, but if she helped him, she’s in a whole lot of trouble. So would they not arrest her?
****I am angry that the military failed to protect her from this creep.***
The MPO (Military Protective Order) finally confirmed: from July 2007 until Sept.2007. Didn’t say if it expired, was withdrawn or not renewed. Civilian Sheriff was not made aware of it until yesterday. He could not comment on military procedures.
Me too. What terrible, sick people.
