January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
The Sheriff, who accompanied Greta when the shoe was discovered, did obtain a search warrant for seizing the shoe - as ridiculous as it sounds - he realized he needed one.
Yes, but the sheriff obtained the search warrant after discovering the evidence. If he didn’t have permission to go on the property, or a search warrant, the shoe evidence just might be inadmissable at any trial. They probably have enough other evidence to get a conviction if they ever pick up Cesear. Did you see the part of my post above that the throat may have been cut post-mortem????
That's the first I've heard of that but NOTHING that I learn at this point will surprise me.
Great catch!
Who knows if that part is true, since it was not released officially, but how disgusting is that? By the way, why would Laurean write more than one note? Reports say that the wife, Christina, turned in more than one note to authorities. Strange.
The friend in the Lowe’s video is a “cooperating witness”. Now there are at least two - Christina and the Lowe’s guy.
I assume that Laurean paid for the truck's gas for cash in the final hours he had it...how full was the gas tank? would there be any gas station cameras that captured him filling up?
Most vehicles have a range of 400+ miles. Jacksonville to Raleigh is about 150 miles. So it is possible that he had not purchased fuel since leaving Jacksonville
FIY....picked up a copy of the Lejeune Globe in the lobby, the Col Hodges will relinquish her command on Monday. She is headed for Arlington VA for a position there. Which means they will have a new base commander Monday. Wonder if he or she will pick up the ball and run with it.
No mention whatsoever of Laurean in this dated Jan 24th.

sorry FYI not FIY
***the shoe evidence just might be inadmissable at any trial***
Sad but true - and it was all caught on video;( Ironic, that if he had just seen it from the neighbor’s yard - and executed a search warrant - it would be admissable.
The post-mortem injury looks like wifey’s work. I just have that stubborn feeling - that the letters and the storyline are all clean up efforts by Christina.
Off Topic - but *Stacy Peterson case related (??)* Fox News just reported that a blue plastic *trash can* was found near the Sanitary Shipping Canal near Bolingbrook/Chicago containing (or close to)human body parts. Autopsy ME tomorrow.
On my screen it does looks like "FOR SALE".
Do you think Maria's parents are selling it?
When I get home I'll see what I can do.
Funny the indictment didn't mention Maria's car.
Was there ever a VIN given out for Laurean’s truck or Maria’s car?
I cant wait for the day she is charged. This is a serious outrage that she is still acting like the “poor wife” who didnt know her husband was a psycho.
If anything, I hope she faces some military charges. The ones below are all pretty much valid even if she DIDNT have anything to do with the murder itself. Those charges go on for days!
