Ill was not ranked in the top twenty until they beat OSU, and had three loses prior to that.

I'm generally a Pac-10 loyalist but USC wouldn't have beaten LSU this year. The USC fans are reading way too much into the Rose Bowl game. It was basically a home game against an extremely one-dimensional team. Other than Hawaii (which was a complete joke), Illinois was the worst BCS team by a long ways. Kansas, the other candidate for the distinction, would have handed the Illini their head.

I've watched a lot of college football and the best team I saw this year was the LSU team against VT (prior to LSU getting bite by the injury bug).

Well said.

USC was one of the best teams at year’s end..no doubt about it..but the Ill game cannot be used as a measure. People did the same with Georgia...no doubt Georgia was one of the better teams at year’s end, BUT Hawaii at 12-0 was in a weak conference and made Georgia look better than they really are:

(Hawaii beat Nevada by 2 points, and Nevada was beaten in the bowl game by New Mexico State 23-0)Hawaii beat Louisiana Tech by 1 point in overtime, yet the match makers and many pundits were suggesting that the Hawaii - Georgia game was going to be a must see match up...I humbly predicted that Georgia would kill them...and they did...not because Georgia is great, but because Hawaii is not.

Yeah...OSU also wholloped teams that wholloped Illinois. Juice Williams had a day where he (uncharacteristically) hit some beautiful passes on the run to covered receivers. If you watched closely against USC, you could see how dangerous he was, but where he hit a covered receiver in one game, he missed (more usual) in the other (and most of the rest of the season).
