NEW ORLEANS -- With the 2007 football season complete, here's the game plan for 2008:
Jim Tressel's Ohio State team has lost back-to-back games for the BCS national championship.
We need border patrols along Interstate 10, from Jacksonville to Pensacola. A Coast Guard blockade at Biscayne Bay. And the FAA should redirect all inbound flights to South Florida from Ohio.
If you see a silver helmet and a sweater vest coming, contact authorities.
Because next year's BCS National Championship Game will be played in Miami, and the Ohio State Buckeyes aren't invited. Especially if the Southeastern Conference champion is invited.
If you've ever seen lions maul a water buffalo, you've seen the last two title games. You've seen a fierce pair of SEC teams -- Florida last year, LSU this year -- blow the vulnerable Buckeyes back to the Bratwurst Belt by a combined 41 points. You've seen the best of one league flex, and the best of an inferior league collapse

USC would not have beaten LSU, but would have beaten OSU.
Keep in mind that USC lost to Standford (the biggest lost against the point spread in NCAA history). USC beat Ill in the bowl BUT Ill was not ranked in the top twenty until they beat OSU, and had three loses prior to that.
USC beat Arizona State, but TEXAS beat Arizona State worse that USC did...Ball State had more total offensive yards against Nebraska than USC (as did six other teams agaisnt Nebraska).
In the end, we need a playoff system.
I agree there!
No the Big 10 is 8-8 in BCS bowl games, with at least one victory over an SEC team. I think the record is more like 1-3 in BSC bowl games.
Thats the attitude why you guys always lose the BIG ONE! So BITE THE BIG ONE BUCKEYE BOY! I am sick as a dog about the BCS now and this should make them take more concern on how this ends up... 4 team playoff is simple to do. It would eliminate a farce and give two top winners a final chance to go at it....
USC was the best team at years end... no doubt about it.
Well,
USC couldn’t beat those Nerds from Stanford.
WVU couldn’t beat the “I wish I was at Penn State” Pitt Panthers.
Missouri couldn’t beat OU going to lose in a BCS bowl again?
OU couldn’t beat some other glorified tech school who’s name escapes me.
And LSU is lucky all of the above happened as well.
That's The OHNO State University!
If you mean best, that would be reserved for LSU for doing what it needed to do. If you mean hottest, I think you'll find Georgia was playing the best ball over the last half of the season.
I bet clothing stores are going to have a run on the sweater vests worn by Jim Tressel. NOT!
LSU vs. USC, now THAT would have been a game!
How ‘bout them Hogs!
They should be lamenting that Missouri was the better choice for the BCS Championship. But big money runs the BCS. Mizzou never gets any credit, even on a record season..
I almost fell out of my chair when the announcers were saying that this was a young Ohio State team and could be back in the title game next year. Please stop this insanity and implement a playoff system.
Buckeye fan here, grats on the game last night.
The result is just about what I expected. Big-10 football has softened in the last few years. I get sick of watching the buckeyes play 3-4 easy cake teams a year to pump up the record. A lot of teams do this also but I don’t think a better record makes you a better team. I would much rather see the big games during the season to make the bucks better in the long run. They collapsed last night under the pressure.
See ya next year, even I hope it’s not in the championship game, big 10 wont be ready by then. I want to get back to the prestige of beating Mich to go to the Rose Bowl like it was meant to be.
Perhaps they should just make the SEC championship the national championship. :-)
Amen to that. Sanchez looked clueless against Oregon. Booty would have given them the boot for sure.
How about a bowl game every 46 years!
But they didn't, did they?
Buckeyes were picked 3rd in the Big 10 this year, btw.
WVA and Missouri could have played in the title game, but they folded. Have to win games to get the title game, right?
AP's final rankings has OSU #5 in a rebuilding year. Not bad.
You're thinking of the record of Ohio State against SEC teams in postseason play. The overall record of the Big 10 conference is poor but not a shutout. The 0-9 record of Ohio State goes back to the Woody-Bear matchup in the '78 Sugar Bowl (another blowout). Most of those losses came during the long, dreary John Cooper era. They'd lose to Michigan and wind up in a second-tier bowl like the Citrus against an SEC also-ran, and lose.
That said, because of these two consecutive championship losses, IMO the BCS is going to be disinclined to invite Ohio State to any BCS Bowl no matter what their record is next year.
Denial is not just a river in Africa...
This sounds like the Chicago Bears, who seem to think beating the Green Bay Packers makes a season, or the Chicago Cubs versus the St. Louis Cardinals.
Given OSU’s nearly $30 million annual investment in the football program, certainly more should be expected...
My Jayhawks would have put up a better fight, or at least scored more points.
