Normally there is a delay on the satellite providers of about 2-3 seconds because it takes that long to get your local station’s signal via fiber optic line usually to the dish co.’s operations center and in turn to your dish and your TV set.

A delay of a few minutes is unheard of though.

Not if you have a DVR and have forgotten that you "went back" to do your own instant replay or paused the TV during a potty run etc.
