The two brothers injured in the Christmas Day tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo have refused to let police examine photos on their cell phones that authorities believe were taken the day they were mauled and their friend was killed.

< snip >

"We also understand that police officers requested permission from your clients to examine any images and other contents of the cell phone. Your clients refused to cooperate with this request; consequently, no one has yet examined this potentially critical evidence."

However I don’t like animal abusers. I don’t want to see them dead but darn it these adults should have known better.

You're nicer than I am (which I think would go without saying). My hand to God, I think all animal abusers should die.

The first reports were a tad disjointed. It was the Zoo management that kept the cops out ~ that is, the zoo management was "hostile".

The victims were dead, severely injuired, wounded, terrorized, etc.

The zoo management denied them safety from the tiger attack. I bet they were angry. Except the dead guy. He wasn't angry.

I’m sure Geragos is negotiating a nice contract for first publication of those photos, too.

It does seem to me that Mrs Miller’s witness statement about the taunting would be probable cause for the subpoena. Just depends on how much weight they put on the taunting as causing the death of the 3rd victim.

The non-cooperation started their very first minutes of rescue, which tells me they knew before lawyering up “what to do” if guilty. The part where they wouldn’t call the dead boy’s parents or even acknowledge to the parents that he had been with them - much less that he had died - also tells me there was probably a 2-against-1 thing going on, brothers against the other one.

His mother made some statements that made it sound that way, too - like one of the Dhaliwals was his best friend - but then each example she gave indicated that he was more of a follower or tag-along.

I’m very intrigued about the report of a 4th person and hope that can be fleshed out. I mean, just as an example, what if he’s a buddy of theirs who once worked at that zoo or another one and knew some things to do to “get them a good photo” for JackAss or somesuch reality show?

No way. Not on Christmas Day. Maybe go throw a football somewhere. The one who died was supposed to visit his mother but he never made it.

That does not mean they are not "cooperating" ~ just on that one little item. I wouldn't either. In fact I'd be filing a complaint to get back my stolen cellphones.

This happens all the time in the emergency room operations at hospitals ~ you have an accident and next thing you know somebody else has your wallet.

Could this have been a gang initiation?

That was my first impression, shared by a few others here and elsewhere.

The footprint on the rail might have been on the underside of the rail, suggesting that the brothers held the vic over the rail by his ankles. Were that the case, Tatiana could have slashed his throat easily and pulled herself over the rail on his body. Maybe farfetched, but that's my impression.

Cellphone photos might have been taken to prove to their homies that they did it.

PETA would want them executed. There was an animal euthanized over this remember.

PETA euthanizes thousands of animals. Sometimes their employees even toss the killed animals into shopping center waste receptacles -- and are found out and prosecuted for it. I am not a PETA sympathizer, but your statement that PETA is somehow against euthanasia is not factual. (Confirm this by a search under the terms "PETA euthanasia".)

Facts are important.

I think I may have raised that question. There's a dumpster at the Cafe. For all anybody knows the tiger was headed for the delightsome odors emanating from it.

Just check www.google.earth ~ there are pictures from space of every feature of this zoo. Should be no mysteries.

Typical:

The nice kid makes a bad choice to hang with a couple Butt Heads. They go wild with the sling shots and camera on the Big Cat that is already in a bad mood. Surprise! The Big Cat is Damn BIG! AND PISSED! A possible forth idiot split to save his sorry butt and let the others get chewed. Classy.

The lady saw it all.
The cops have already seen the shots and want to use them to protect the innocent and make it impossible for these two manslaughters and the ambulance chaser to profit from this action. They want this evidence ironclad. Good for them.
The poor family of the dead kid are mad at the zoo because they feel partially responsible and don’t want to feel bad, angry is better?

The Big Cat don’t care anymore. Bye big fellow.

"I still don’t understand why a zoo would be open on Christmas either."

It's San Francisco. There is no Christmas, only "Holidays."

Use your head. These are young men who live by means of their cellphones. The cops have them. They cannot call the deadboy's father.

Ever try to find a pay phone these days? How about a phone number that's on your cellphone that the cops are holding.

This all makes sense. Without their phones they couldn't make the call.

Very good points & I agree with you.

Your story about the 4 yr old reminds me of that Croc Hunter Steve Irwin when he had his month old baby near a huge crocodile while he was feeding him with one hand & holding the infant with the other. People see stupid stunts like this on TV and just have to try them for themselves. Shaking my head again...

I doesn’t make a difference but she was a breeder. I wonder if her hormones were being altered. Do they use meds with breeding?

I so totally agree with all three of your statements.

I am furious that Mark Geragos will now let these two jerks come away from this with a bundle of money.

People see stupid stunts like this on TV and just have to try them for themselves.

That's very true, and I hadn't thought of that. People see so many animal programs on TV, where people are either doing foolish things and living to tell about it, or where the animals are very sentimentalized and it makes it sound as if they would never hurt a flea, that they develop a kind of false confidence. Normally, nothing happens to them - but every so often...
