We drove around a ~little~ in search of where she might have come from that was within chicken walking distance, but gave up and took her to Rutledge Farm (the corn maze people) and asked if they took refugee chickens.... They have all kinds of free farm birds that roam the place, but no Rhode Island Reds... so now they have one. She looked like she'd fit in pretty well around there.
A very nice chicken place where she gets to roam and be an amusement for tourists at the corn maze. Much better than being eaten by Gidget. It would have been a real headache to try to build her a safe area to be, and quite a bit of angst and punishment might have had to have been inflicted on Gidget to get it through her head that it the chicken is ~not~ good sport.
Heh. I guess the chicken didn’t read the fine print that your place is for dogs, cats, and horses only.
Still...fresh eggs every morning would be nice.
Does Gidget think so?
You did a good thing.
Nonetheless, I am really wanting some chickens now and they go on sale at the feed stores next month.
Do you think it would be ok? A bit of a splurge for myself after all this hard work?
Evening Hair - We think that was a pretty nice thing to do for the redchicken. That farm looks like a very nice place.
Heh...so if we see one red chicken there in the fall...we’ll know where she came from, huh? Well...kinda.
Still a mystery how a chicken ended up at your place!
I’d like to have chickens someday, but I dunno how that’d work. Oddly enough, the family of one of my best friends growing up *always* had about half a dozen laying hens at any given time. And their dog was a dalbrador. The only other I’ve known. ;-) But they had the chickens in an enclosed run, with a bit attached hen house...so that’s a bit different, I guess.
Cool! She found some friends!
