The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Heh. I guess the chicken didn’t read the fine print that your place is for dogs, cats, and horses only.

Still...fresh eggs every morning would be nice.

I saw them walking the street when I was in Key West in 2000. They were flapping their wings and making the most God-awful noises.

It would be! and I have a few regrets about not even ~trying~ to see if we could keep her. I’ve just seen Gidget... at Rutledge actually, lunging at the leash to get at them. And if I set her up with a coop in the barn... what of the feral kitties I have given refuge there? I don’t know... ecurbh’s relieved he isn’t going to be recruited to help solve it. :~)

He promises me that when we get our own place he will get me some ducks, when we can build a proper duck pond. :~)

Much better than being eaten by Gidget.

Does Gidget think so?

If you don’t like duck, you’re rather stuck.

I know this is heresy on FreeRepublic, but if you really want to open up your horse boarding place as a business and not just a hobby you should look at the possibility of a grant/loan from the Small Business Administration. You’d get extra points if it’s in your name and not ecurbh’s.

Just food for thought.

I’ve already gotten into enough trouble with gov’t loans, but I won’t bring that on here.

You did a good thing.

Nonetheless, I am really wanting some chickens now and they go on sale at the feed stores next month.

Do you think it would be ok? A bit of a splurge for myself after all this hard work?

Well, that’s an interesting idea... not really sure how all that works. We’ll see how it goes when we get to the point where we’re actually crunching numbers and looking for property... and I think that time might be coming somewhat soon. Can’t wait forever. :~)

You got a lot of joy from those chickens. I’d say go for it. The boys are old enough now that they can take more responsibility whilst you’re working.

I think it’d be great for you to have chickens again. Do what you can to shore up the yard where the dogs got in... shouldn’t be too hard to make it dog proof, just for piece of mind.

I really did, you know. And now we can afford a better enclosure maybe and maybe they won’t be hurt.

My heart breaks over Benny Hen to this very day.

Speaking of Benny Hen, we’re taking the PC to a faith healer this week. The noises are so loud now that I’m afraid to be on more than a few minutes at a time.

We can survive on laptops fer a day or so.
