The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Heh...I could see how that might be a bit confusing for the poor things...

I don’t think Cisco would do well with one of those. If he got shocked, he’d probably immediately drop to the ground where he was and roll over on his back and then lay there flinching as the shock continued. :-\

I still wish he didn’t cave so easily. He’s smart enough, but...

Neutron can be sort of that way, a little. He mostly just goes and cowers in a safe spot. He’s the one you have to be really careful when scolding or he just goes into petrified mode. Valence is the sort you have to bop upside the head to get to notice you.

It gives a nice long beep warning before shocking, by the way. It’s not just a “hit this line and fry” deal.

Ah, OK. That's a little better than I had pictured. ;-)

Cisco cringes and piddles as soon as he even *thinks* he might get scolded. :-\ It's frustrating, because he's obviously a very smart (if spastic) dog, but there's a limit to how much I can teach him because as soon as I start giving orders, he rolls over and won't move. No amount of either coaxing or scolding seems to make a difference. I have no idea if he's always been this way or if he was treated badly when he was little. Considering some of his oddities (he's realllly nervous on hard flooring, and also when he has anything in his mouth, even if it's a toy I've clearly given him), he may well have had someone who was too hard on him in certain circumstances.

It is annoying because it does not mean he stops doing things bad. I mean I get mad at him for getting in the trash and it’s cower cower cower. Then I turn away and *bam* the nose is back in the trash. Stupid dog.

Yep...there’s that, too. Urgh. Did you see my rants about him stealing stuff off the counter?

Grrrr...

The nice thing about having got our dogs so young is that they don’t seem to have been mistreated before we got them. Whoever dumped their litter at the shelter waited til they were weaned, they were healthy, and he took ‘em to the right spot. It would be a lot harder with a dog with a past like yours.

Or maybe he’s just stupid. Ours can be just stupid sometimes.

Sometimes?
Like:
Me: “See this garden? Bad dog. Don’t go there.”
Stupid Mutt #1: ‘Hmm if I go over there and cower in that nice dirt patch maybe he will stop yelling at me. Oops, now he is chasing me around the yard.’

Okay....we got something that sounds like it might be a warning siren....it wouldn’t wake me up out of a sound sleep, though.

Just thunder....no weird-looking clouds yet.

Izzit LOST yet?

I seriesly considered the DVR. I was up late last night, up early this morning, spent all day with ~those people~ and the took Luke to a two-hour rehearsal for the kid’s production Sunday.

But, I’m up, and I’m curious.

We only got to see the last half of LOST; the first half was pre-empted by tornado warnings coverage. Lots of sirens going off, haven’t heard that any tornados touched down and any damage will probably be from the quarter to baseball-sized hail.

Perfect Village needs to contract with our ~siren~ consultant; when the siren half-a-block up shut off we could still heard sirens from other parts of town.

You can watch lost on the ABC site tomorrow.

I mentioned that to OB, and he muttered something about "having to figure it out".

Our weatherpeople tend to over-react whenever we have a thunderstorm. It's gotten so we hardly pay attention to the warnings, which isn't too smart, but they're cried wolf once too often. One weatherweenie even suggested that kids put on their bicycle helmets when they went to the basement, way to scare them to death!!

It's go to the site, push "watch complete episode." That's about all the figgering you have to do.

Question: Jr. who doesn't normally watch the show came home and says person we saw talking with Locke in the preview for next week was Jacob.

But I didn't think so.
