The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Heh. I’ve got Miss Cat camped out in front of the storm door looking across the street at the dog camped out in front of his/her storm door.

I basically just went out back and stirred up pollen and dust all day.

The rain washed away all the pollen and dust here, but now the yard is a swamp.

I just potted up some plants and did a little vacuuming. Now that Yellowface is out, I’m just hanging out, enjoying thesunroom.

Yellowface has been out here all week. Supposed to cloud up and rain tonight and all day tomorrow. If I was motivated to run to Lowe’s I’d buy some grass seed to throw out tomorrow...if...

Afternoon G’nad - mmm, fresh veggies from thegarden. Doubtless Gunner will earn his keep by running off all the furry little varmints that were partaking of your garden in seasons past.

Hair - we bet the horses were surprised by the snow. Those are some pictures. You think that’s the last of it?

heh - ‘if the sun didn’t feel so good, I’d go over there and run that dog off his porch, but like I said, the sun feels too good’.

The grey cat from across the street has been hanging out with us this afternoon. Beautiful smoke-grey fur with striking amber eyes. He’s got his claws and has been stalking squirrels, so far he hasn’t got any.

Bloom report - Redbuds are coming on. Tulips are up today. A few blossoms on the lilac and the viburnum; won’t be long now. Dug numerous dandylions up, just the right moisture content to make it happen, dang those are some loong roots. Another two bags on the porch. Never did make it to get the mulch, ahhh, well, tomorrow is another day. All in all a very good caturday so far. Ribs for dinner...mmmm.

So today I learned how to make this on one of these out of some of this. I figure it will be a handy skill to have just in case the world ends. :D

I would have picked up some branches or gotten some leaves up earlier but I was busy potting plants. By the time I finished , I just didn’t feel like it. Maybe tomorrow....

I think the snow stuned their beeber. They hadn’t even been wearing their blankets for nearly a month.

Not sure if we’ll get more. It’s melted and drippy now, but there’s forecast for more maybe tonight and tomorrow.

Then spring?

Hullo Hair & everyone!

Cross your fingers because if the legal issues get solved then in about 4 or 5 days time were all going to hear some great news about The Hobbit!

We got a late start outside, cause SirKit spent the morning "making sure the pig was still in the fence", as he calls his research. He describes his calculations as slowly shrinking the fence, and checking from time to time, so make sure the pig is still within it. ;o)

We went for a long walk this afternoon, then came back and started working in the backyard creating a bin in which to dump the sand that's still in the little trailer. We'll finish that tomorrow, and dump the sand, so we can free up the trailer to go get another load of gravel on Monday, so we can make lots more concrere.

We're going to create a slab under the lower deck so that it can be used to store out of season stuff, like deck chairs, or the mower or snow thrower, depending on the season. Because of the fall off of the yard, the deck will be almost four feet off the ground at the outside, so there will plenty of room for storage. We'll put a lattice around the outside edges to keep critters out, and to give it a finished look.

SirKit calls it a 'rat slab' because we're only going to pour it about 1- 1/2" thick, and we'll make it strong by adding metal fibers to it, instead of pouring it thick and using large metal mesh or re-bar. It doesn't have to hold that much weight, so it will be plenty strong. It will have to 'step-down' as the yard falls off, but there will be two levels that will be at least 18' wide and 6' deep, under the deck. We'll be able to take a lot of stuff out of the garage and put it under there until we get ready to move.
