The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

They tried quite diligently and patiently, we agreed it was likely operator error. I’ll try again tomorrow. You know me and ‘puters. OB

I'm startin' look like this.. without the bling... and the tan...

Heh heh...Joshua came in, heard me chuckling and asked “What’s funny?”

I told him what you said and he didn’t really think it was funny. He just nodded and accepted it immediately as the the God’s honest truth.

It's all context. He has no idea who Mr. T is. Tell him g'nad is staring to look like this...but with a mohawk...

Well, now Joshua really admires Jar Jar...even named his pet chicken after him! (Which is saying something, ‘cause you know how we felt about them chickens!)

Probably...heh!

I just stuffed a couple of bucks into an envelope and stuck it on my trash bin. My trash collection company upped their rates two bucks and I’d already paid for January.

They’re good folks and would’ve probably blown it off, but I know they get a kick out of my trash can notes...that’s how I used to pay them every month. (Now it’s a recurring automatic check from my bank.)

Another mundane nugget of info about my life.

You’re a trusting soul 2J. My cynical side thinks that those two bucks won’t ever see the inside of anything but the trashman’s pocket, but I hope I’m wrong.

Question for anyone on the thread:

So I’ve suddenly become way more sensitive to chemical fragrances (substances added to products to produce smell). Someone in the next pew with too much aftershave sends me on, basically, a nice little trip to loopy land, with a possible detour past I-can’t-breathe, and afterwards I get a hangover quality headache.

I’ve noticed that all the shampoos I have contain fragrances and I wonder if it’s part of why I have low grade headaches all the time. Does anyone use hippy shampoo with no added fragrances, etcetera, or have any bright suggestions?

In case you’re wondering, fragrances are usually the last ingredient or so on the label and are listed either as “fragrance” or something like “cinnamol oil” or “suchandsuch extract” and I’m probably not allergic to all of them but none of the allergists in the area test for this allergy so I haven’t determined which ones are a problem yet.

Hey Jen. I've not used a fragrance-free shampoo, but do use a fragrance-free, dye-free body wash that I got from the shop at my dermatologist. But I also found it at this site. They appear to market all kinds of fragrance-free products so I'm thinking about re-ordering the body-wash from them, as well as trying the shampoo. Just thought you might find the link useful.

That’s ok! The trashman owns the truck that picks up my trash! It’s a private company.

He always writes “Thank you!” on my check, which is not even my check but a check that the bank sends him automatically each month. The only way I see it is when I download a copy of the check and look at it. There it is! “Thank you!”

I like them a lot...they’re very courteous guys. One year I made them a large paper grocery bag full of goodies, like pumpkin bread for Christmas. I included paper towels, forks knives, paper plates and hand wipes.

I used to do that kind of thing for all my neighbors, the postal worker...then I got tired. Heh!

Oh, well that’s different then when the driver owns the company. That’s really nice of you to do all that stuff for them too. I’m sure they’ve really appreciated it over the years. It’s the little courtesies that make the world a better place.

See, he really is a luddite!

OB, this is just pitiful. UPS delivered a package for our neighbor to us, and I signed for it. Said neighbor just came to pick up the package and rang the doorbell. Gyps had just started her dinner, so she let out one "woof" and then went back to eating. She didn't start barking until she had finished and he was long gone by then.

You might have to order it in from the internet. I just googled “fragrance free shampoo” and came up with a bunch of possibilities.

and thats different from any other time and place... how?...

*snork*

In other news, on the job front, I'm settling in well. I got the first of my assignments today. Supervisor sez he needs a bulldog to get the people who owe us reports whipped into shape. The divine thing is the people who owe us reports are the very organization I just left, so call it fate, karma, divine intervention, come-uppance... it's just a beautiful thing. I'll take the high road and that'll make it all the more fun.

Er...you sure this is a bug and not a feature?

Just kidding...hope you're able to figure something out. I wonder if some of the more natural fragrances (stuff that uses essential oils instead of chemicals) would work OK. Might be worth trying something from a Whole Foods or such like. I had a friend who was allergic to any anything petrolatum derived (most lotions contain some such stuff), and natural foods stores were about the only places that had stuff that worked.

In other news....a new work betta - I has one.
