The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

When I work all night, I don’t allow myself to drink any coffee in the morning, I take a good shower, I eat a reasonably good (not too light, not too heavy) breakfast like an egg taco and I take a Benadryl.

My bedroom is darkened with cardboard, because I worked so many night shifts with agency (before I went evening shifts at the hospital.) I turn on a 20 inch fan on low. Steve makes sure my bed is just right (very smooth and folded down).

I usually aim for 8am as bed time and either one or two as get up time. Joshua turns on the coffee pot, then comes in at the appropriate time and softly wakes me up...usually I wake up to find him sofly rubbing my face...something he’s done since he was born. He’ll usually stay there and rub my face, talking to me until the coffee pot gurgles that it’s done.

Then I get up. I found this routine helps me get back to sleep the next night.

I guess!

Heh heh...me too.

Actually, my brother burned that song onto a disk with some others and gave it to me to listen to in the PT Cruiser when he sold it to me. A kind of bonus, I guess.

I have to say, every time I listen to it I just roar with laughter. I think it’s very funny. The guy sounds so pathetic.

“Are you gonna be my girl?”

LOL!

Heh...yah, he does sound like a wimp. There seem to be a lot of songs like that right now.

The radio station I like plays a *really* wide variety (pretty much anything from the Beatles forward to current artists), and once in a great while they play that one.

OK, today’s Craigslist funnies. If you were a little kid, would you *really* want the foot of this bed lookin’ at you in the dark?

I think the point is that it’s a bad situation all around for him and well, might as well get right to the point. And him walking up to this girl in what I percieve to be a crowded room and she’s got a hostile expression on her face AND she’s with another guy and saying “Are you gonna be my girl” to her takes a lot of well...let’s just say courage. And the wimpy pathetic way it comes out is because he knows he probably doesn’t have a prayer. But you gotta admire his...courage.

The ultimate in pathetic “I want you” songs right now is James Blunt’s “Beautiful”. I can’t even listen to it. Blech.

A sample of the lyrics (very repetitive, obviously, and sung in a whiny, whiny voice):
You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it’s time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Blech, blech, blech. Luckily “my” station doesn’t consider him rock, so they mostly only play parodies of his songs. They like making fun of him...

What I think is so hysterically funny about the Jet song is the contrast!

It is what I consider to be very hard rock (maybe it isn’t even...but it is to me) and it’s just hard rockin’ along until he says that “gonna be my girl” part.

It makes me feel like the point the song is trying to convey is that this is a quintessential “I perceive myself as one thing, but come across as another” kind of moment.

Which I kinda relate to (in case you didn’t know).

Does that make sense?

I have never heard that one...sounds kinda syrupy.

I wouldn’t have heard the Jet song if my brother hadn’t recorded it for me. On that same disk, he recorded “American Girl” by Tom Petty and “Perfect Day” from the Legally Blonde soundtrack, among others.

For some reason he thought I would like them and he was right.
