The other day there was yet another Middle Kingdom (?) find in the Fayyum, cited as pharaonic -- but I don't know much more than that, and am not sure if it's MK (during that period the Fayyum was booming, thanks to the Canal of Joseph, which still exists) or whether the mummy found was *of* a pharaoh. That would be hot.

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.

whoops, not Middle Kingdom, the other story I mentioned was 3rd IP:

The possible existence of Third Intermediate Period elite tombs at el-Ashmunein
A.J. Spencer
http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/publications/bmsaes/issue_8/spencer.aspx
http://www.britishmuseum.org/PDF/AJ%20Spencer.pdf

“The use of temple forecourts as locations for tombs of the elite is a well-documented feature of the Third Intermediate Period. A reinterpretation of some very poorly preserved buildings in the court of the temple of Thoth at el-Ashmunein may provide an additional example.”
