All the snide remarks forgiven Ed...
But you still can answer the question....
“What then”?
What will you be doing about trying to save the Republic when the vote IS cast and the verdict IS in and Fred D Thompson has FAILED to connect... FAILED to inspire... and FAILED to Win, Show or Place?
WHAT ??!!
I am serious...
I am not trying to be a b**ch about your guy or laugh or be rude...
I really want to KNOW... because I don’t see ANY FReddy’s who have an answer for the rest of us?
None of these guys are gonna get more than 30%...
Which means 70% don’t like whoever the winner is...
So... Freddy’s...
“Whatcha gonna do ‘bout it” ??
The answer is, support the GOP candidate, even if reluctantly.
That said, for us who support FDT, he DOES inspire us. He DOES connect with us. We value substance over style. Many people do not, unfortunately, hence the election of people like Bill Clinton.
Rachel,
I don’t know everything. This primary process is the first time I have paid attention and thanks to FR, I am looking at it through a microscope.
It is fair to say, I am looking for someone to “save” or at least preserve “the Republic”.
Toward that end, I looked at the voting, policy and work history together with current position statements and arrived at Thompson. Those are the most important things to me. He has done very well in debates, scoring notable positives with the audiences. He’s a steady individual and quite likable.
Slick retail campaigns are quite effective at wooing voters on personality I’m learning, allowing candidates to avoid indepth analysis that gets to how they will govern / can they be trusted. It appears to me that Iowa is focusing on the retail aspect and missing the important details. I could be wrong, but having looked at the details I see a disconnect.
Iowans take great pride in this process and their involvement in it. I’m impressed. The reality is, with *all* information on candidates available in seconds, is this retail process adequated? does it distract from getting a true understanding of how they would govern? My opinion today is yes.
Now to your question..
Assuming for a second, Fred falls flat in Iowa. What will I do?
Accept the result. Walk away with a much better understanding of primary campaigns. Pray for my Country. Focus on my family. Continue to support Fred Thompson.
IF that were to happen, and I stress the IF, then we will all hold our noses and vote for whichever Republican gets the nomination. Though I seriously dislike most of them, ANY of them are better than the Democrat.
BUT, I seriously doubt any of the other candidates, of those likely to win, can beat the Dem in the primary. If we don’t put a man in the race with minimum skeletons in the closet and a solid conservative background, we are crazy.
To that end, GO FRED!
