Tiger tragedy brothers' 'don't talk' pact

The anguished brother of a teen who died trying to save two buddies from a tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo struggled Friday to understand why the survivors ran out on their mortally injured friend.

"If he stepped in for you, why did you leave him to die?" asked 17-year-old Carlos Sousa's brother, Leo, 21.

He said his family has been looking for answers since the 350-pound tiger got loose on Christmas and mauled Carlos.

By all accounts, the youth was killed trying to get the big cat away from brothers Kulbir Dhaliwal, 23, and Amritpal, 19.

But Leo Sousa said his family's calls to the Dhaliwal family have gone unanswered.

The brothers, who aren't saying much to investigators, could be released from San Francisco General Hospital today

"The anguished brother of a teen who died ...struggled Friday to understand why the survivors ran out on their mortally injured friend."

Maybe this parable will help him understand:

Two friends were strolling down a jungle trail when suddenly they looked up and saw a tiger on the trail coming at them in full attack. One of the men bent over to tightly lace his shoes and the other asked him, “Why are you doing that? Don’t you know you can’t outrun a tiger?” With a knowing smile, his friend replied, “I don’t have to outrun the tiger; all I have to do is outrun you.”

“I’ll criticize actions that took place before the attack “

Precisely.

What did they do that potentially harrassed and angered the tiger prior to him jumping the wall, which may have provoked the attack? If they didn’t do anything, why did they refused to tell investigators what happened?

The investigators found a footprint on the wall and one TV news also mentioned that they also found blood in the area separating the tiger’s area and the public area, where people were not allowed to go. What were they doing there? Did they wound the tiger first?

Note the tiger didn’t attack the first bystander next to his area when he escaped, he went after these three guys.

Survivors guilt is very common.

They have nothing to be ashamed of. A 165 pound human is no match for a 400 pound tiger.

police had found a shoe and blood inside the enclosure.... also said "pinecones and sticks that were found in the moat might have been thrown at the animal... Sources have told The Chronicle that the tiger's rear claws show signs of wear, supporting the theory that Tatiana may have used her rear legs to climb the wall....crossed a metal fence that surrounds the tiger grotto. Blood was found between the fence and the moat wall as was a shoeprint on the fence. .....Tatiana latched on to the limb to pull herself out...... They were charged earlier this year with misdemeanor public intoxication and resisting a police officer .......After the zoo attack, authorities said, the brothers had refused to give their own names, identify the victim or give authorities an account of what occurred.....

They were up to no good, it sounds like.
Would it not be ironic, to be eaten by the Animal you tease, attack and belittle, just to see what it does and then it gets out after all.

They might ALL be alive...IF they had been allowed to carry guns.

Please! These schmucks are walking evidence for liberals that people shouldn't be allowed to carry guns.

They taunted the animal, and the was no liberal judge in the way to suspend their sentence or review their difficult backgrounds.

First of all, I’m not convinced that if I saw a 350-pound tiger eating someone, I wouldn’t run like hell, too. Sometimes, there is really no sense in intervening. And secondly, I’m not at all convinced that Carlos sacrificed his life for his friends. Sorry, but this whole story stinks. And since minorities are involved in a PC state, I doubt we’ll ever know the full truth.

Sounds to me like they don’t want to ruin any chances of their juicy lawsuit by revealing that they were teasing, taunting and throwing things at the tiger after hours.

Maybe they threw Carlos to the tiger?

By the look of their names...can we assume that they might be muzzie cowards?

They are from India, you moron.

And I would advise my son to run like hell instead of taking on a 400 pound tiger.

There was a time that no one would say it was ok to leave a friend who was in danger of being killed, even if the odds were greatly against you. Certainly people still did run away from danger and leave a friend to his fate, but they were called cowards. Times have changed. Perhaps not for the better.

Police and zoo officials recanted.

They now say there was NO shoe found inside the enclosure.

The behavior of the two brothers is despicable if the reports are true.

They refused to even give the name of Carlos or their own - refused to cooperate with the police. This, along with other info implies they were guilty of a criminal act.

I have no sympathy for the brothers.

Here’s a random thought. Let’s tie Khalbir Dhawali to a tree and coat his body in Catnip! Then let Kitty loose!

Maybe they were and are cowards and maybe Carlos was not.

Maybe the next time a tiger gets lose they can call you and you can handle it with a switch.

The source said neither brother showed much concern for Carlos.

“They were more concerned with their car in the parking lot and that it would be okay,”

Here’s Carlos’ original MySpace page. It’s been replaced by a “Memorial” version.

I viewed many of his “friends” - Gangstaz all

I am sure there are many soldiers who saw their friends being killed but could not help at the time.

Running into 50 calibre machine gun fire armed with only your pocket knife screaming, “Leave my friend alone” may be considered brave. But it would also be very stupid.
