The Santa Ana winds will gust up to 90 mph before dawn Tuesday in the countys eastern canyons and foothills and up to 50 mph at the coast, leading to a high wind watch from the National Weather Service.
The third Santa Ana wind event in the past five days will start tonight and quickly build strength, says Stan Wasowski, a weather service forecaster. The winds will be blowing 35-45 mph by midnight in Fremont Canyon above the Anaheim Hills. But the gusts will hit double those speeds overnight, potentially causing wind damage.
A gust of 90 mph would be 16 mph faster than the lower end of a category one hurricane.
The weather service also says that the winds will be stronger than earlier expected at the coast, blowing 15-25 mph late this evening, then strengthening before dawn.
Winds this strong can cause damage and make driving hazardous especially for motorists with high profile vehciles, the weather service says in a statement. Areas of blowing dust could reduce visibility to near zero. Watch for broken tree limbs and downed power lines.
The weather service isnt expected to issue a fire weather warning along with the high wind watch due to the rain the region received this past two from two week storms. However, strong winds can knock down power lines and set wildfires.

Or live power lines that get downed. Or some illegals celebrating Christmas around a campfire. Or...
Wind again...siiiiigh.
Wind serves no purpose other than to make life miserable.
I hate wind. It scares the horses, and causes “Dust-Devils” that blow off the roof shingles, and breaks tree limbs.
This really blows my Christmas away.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Santa likes a tail wind...
Shouldn’t it be “heads down?”
Santa Claus meets Santa Ana ... sounds like he’ll face a headwind.
That is more ominous than this forecast I posted:

WINDS THIS STRONG CAN TOPPLE TREES AND POWER LINES AND MAKE
DRIVING HAZARDOUS...ESPECIALLY FOR MOTORISTS WITH HIGH PROFILE
VEHICLES. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST COULD REDUCE VISIBILITY TO NEAR
ZERO AT TIMES.
A HIGH WIND WATCH MEANS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING HIGH
WINDS. SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH...OR GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR
Merry Christmas, Ernest. We have had gusts here that sounded like the roof is coming off. I heard KABC 7 say that some gusts were 100 mph. No trees down yet that I can see but there is a lot of debris all over the place.
