It is just amazing to me how poorly MS misjudged the market. I never really thought they were huge geniuses anyway, I think most of their success was simply, “no one ever got fired for buying MS’ but this such a huge misstep even for a marginally competent company.

It sure does appear that way.

At least for MSFT as a stock investment, I remember (years ago)
about how MSFT was a good stock because "it always under-promises,
then OVER-delivers".

Sounds like those were the "good old days" of Microsoft as
a stock and a maker of operating systems.
