Excited and whimsical speculation about future versions of Windows is a popular pastime, almost as much as complaining that newly-released versions are too different from the "old reliable" releases that everybody knows and (sometimes) loves. With Windows Vista recently celebrating its first birthday and preparing for the release of Service Pack 1, a team of developers at Microsoft is already busy working on its successor. While Microsoft has been pretty good about keeping the details of "Windows 7" under wraps, a few enthusiastic employees have leaked out a few details. As is usually the case in these situations, people have taken these tiny tidbits and added their ownoften highly improbablespeculation. In this brief report, we'll review what we know, what we expect, and what we're calling bunk on, all based on our knowledge of Windows 7 from inside sources at Microsoft.

I’ll stick with XP, thank-you. You can keep Vista and any other successive version, which will simply be a more bloated resource hogging version of what I’m running now anyway.
Its code name is "Bugfest."
I dunno. From what I’ve read in the article, 7 probably won’t be as bloated, although it won’t be as stripped down as the “MinWin” kernel makes you think.
Also, MS is actually on pace this time. They messed up with Vista because they diverted their time to making SP2 for XP. They should just abandon Vista after SP1 and devote their effort toward making 7. After all, XP came out only a year and a half after ME and 2000.
Unless they move completely over to 64-bit instead of making a hybrid 32/64 OS, I don’t think 7 will be that bloated.
Vista will be the last OS with 32 bit support from Microsoft.

“Microsoft officials told MGX attendees that the company is currently internally planning Windows Seven. So far, the company has determined Windows Seven will come in both 32- and 64-bit flavors.”
...Of course, I could be wrong, as there might be a more recent article than that. I thought that only the 2010 version of server would be exclusively 64-bit?
get a mac and save yourself a lot of grief!
